Ok my rebuttle, note: I am using the IE in windows XP SP2 Beta.

• No pop-ups, customizable built-in pop-up blocker.
• No automatic Javascripts anymore, fixed in this version, better security.
• Add-on manager has options which by default stop and ask you if you want anything installed that changes IE, also most spyware is stopped by the latest ActiveX version.
• Image Scripts are no longer working, because of the new activex and rebuilt coding.
• Tabbed interface to come.
• Less resources used, better easyier interface and menu system.
• Compatible with 100% of the internet.
• Allows you to go to windowsupdate. <-- most important!
• Just plain looks better, and changes apperances with windows skins.
• Doesn't need to be downlaoded seperately, comes with SP2
• Built-in firewall, much better than ICF, works now, can be set for programs, or ports.
• etc

Well, I could go on, but there really is no point in beating around the bush, this WINDOWS BETA PRODUCT, beats the pants of firefox. I can't wait till the full public release comes out.

I wont bother countering the security crap, since I dont care because firefox already has it, probobly better too, but I cant say that o_o

Compatible with 100% of the internet. -> Lies. There are certian HTML tags and features that only work with netscape-type browsers, and there are some that only work with IE-type browsers. I dont know of any browser that incorporates them all, if there is someone let me know

Just plain looks better, and changes apperances with windows skins. -> IE looks horrible. Changing with my windows skin isnt all that great either, since I can change the mozilla skin to just about anything I want without messing around with my windows skin

Doesn't need to be downlaoded seperately, comes with SP2 -> ooo. Big inconvenince there, a whole 2 clicks of a mouse and a 1 minute wait. woa, thats gonna destory my day's schedule O_O

and just to add -> everything you listed thats "new" in IE should have been added long ago, and is already in place with mozilla, aside from a firewall (?).

It's the turtle who wins the race. Slow and steady. We've seen what MS did to it's OS's, Comparing Win95 with XP, it's a massive improvement. IE 6 and IE SP2 beta, are just about as big of a change as 95-XP were. The thing you can expect from IE is the quality, not the number of features crapply added, so fast you need another patch really quickly.

I have SP2 right now, it''s easy to get, I'll even link you to the beta if you want, it's public beta. Currently just as easy to get as FireFox.

IE is built to be efficiant, not look pretty. It offers everything you NEED to surf the web, not extra crap that would just slow it down, and make it waste resources like FireFox.

Pcjoe, I'm USING SP2 right now, and I have yet to get a lock-up or crash, my talk isnt cheap, because I'm experiancing something new from MS, quality! \o/

Consider what some people do on there PC's while they web browse. They work. Building websites, chatting on mIRC, coding, whatever it is you do, any program you open takes up taskbar space (which is quite valuable). Now, consider that you want to browse multiple sites, for example: ESF, mechmod, gmo central, and hlebound.com. Theres 4 IE windows, versus 1 firefox window. Nice taskbar if you open mIRC, winamp, MSN, Dreamweaver, photoshop, etc etc. Your taskbar space is invaluable when it comes to anyone with skills they put to work on the computer.

Compare 95 with XP? I'd *almost* take 95, if it supported the latest games, I would take 95. XP is blogged with crap I dont need nor do I want. The only reason I use XP is because all the latest games require it, because "Microsoft is that damn good"

If you want to post a public link to this beta, go ahead, if not MSN or IRC it to me, i'd love to try it out, then I can REALLY bash it!

IE is the most non-efficent browser i'v ever used in my lifetime. I can't even get it to go to a website anymore, and I only reformatted yesterday. Like I said before, the world should be run on firefox and linux, then the computer world would be a better place

There were a few jpg script/virii that spread rather rapidly through IRC... you could ask Humpie, I saved him from having to format after he opened that Jessica Alba picture, and ran the embedded script. It also changed his homepage to something rather... disturbinig. Not to mention deleted some files from his system32 folder.

It was so bad that the gamesnet staff did a global announcement to warn people about it.

IE displays them, and runs whatever embedded script there is. Anything non-IE say "Image contains errors can cannot be displayed."

(I would assume it's a "script", but I don't know the technical term).

So it's the standard double extension trick? Name a file jessica_alba_nude.jpg.exe and windows will only show the .jpg part? Or will IE run a script in a script file that has a .jpg extension? That's kinda bad. I'm sure a windows update will fix that soon.

By automatic spyware downloading, I believe Mystix was referring to unsigned ActiveX controls that download and install fun stuff like XXX Toolbars.

As i said. Disable ActiveX if you don't need it.

Harsens, if you used standard Mozilla (the one that looks like Netscape), you should really give Firebird/Firefox a try. It's tabbed browsing system is almost exactly the same as Opera's. And it's much, much faster than standard Mozilla.

Then the almost part is gonna annoy they crap out of me Seriously, I don't see why I should waste another minute of my live to download and install a browser that can do the same stuff my current browser does.

As for the security part, I'm naive enough to beleive that if I keep my OS up to date, run a virusscanner and a firewall, don't use my browser to find porn or warez, and use my common sense in whatever I do online I won't be too much in danger. I'm sure once FireFox becomes more mainstream it will be as much targetted by crap as IE is now.

As soon as AIM can use offline messaging and has a history (without using illegal hacked extionsions) I might use it. Until then I prefer ICQ above your stone age messenger.

IE 7.0 will dominate Firefox. 6.0 is faster than Firefox, for me at least. Need a popup blocker for IE? One word; Google. And Firefox does annoy me with the need to download Shockwave and all that mumbo jumbo. And many scripts from some websites generally aren't compatible with Mozilla. So, like I preferred IE over Netscape, I choose IE over Firefox. (But IE definatly needs to add the tab option, thats very cool).

I have never had a searchbar auto-install itself, the only time I've ever had problems with I.E was when I accidentally clicked yes on a popup >_<.

i dont know much about firefox... but to all you people saying "omfgzorz!!1!1one! IE has so many viruses!!1!11!" you need to stop pressing "yes" or "accept" to those little messages that say "do you want to install and run whatever" (usualy on porn or warez sites, its your own damn fault)

if you are unfortunate enough to have pressed yes to something like that... toolbars can be customized to practically any specification you like, and virus scanners are easy to come by (ad aware, spy bot, whatever)

and google toolbar will take care of 99% of all popups. mine has already blocked 1700 and i have no problems so far.


try to see past the deep seeded hatred for anything microsoft and realize that IE is not a bad browser.

im thinking the problem here is you people dont want to take responsibility for the damage you are doing to your own computer... it must be the browser... it couldnt have been that illiegal program you tried to download...

Ok, before I post the link, let me tell all you IE fans, google bar won't be needed in "7.0".

Now for the link, to test for yourselves, this is the latest beta, remember that its a beta, so in order to get the full you will have to uninstall back to sp1. Nothing will break though, so don't worry about it.

That's the scary part, there is no double extension. There's even a trojan called Black Angel 2000 that gets installed via a .jpg file. It's the only one I've ever heard of though.

I'll try IE 7.0 or whatever when it officially comes out, but I'll try it on my other computer, so when it ****s it up, I won't lose all my stuff.

Plus, by the time IE 7.0 is officially out, Firefox will have been upgraded... probably 3 or 4 times.

IE simply becuase I'm to lazy to try anything else.
