I've had an idea for the sitet, maybe you could have like an ESF newsletter, I know there is a news section at the home page and whatnot, but would it be a good idea like if it was written weekly, and would just keep up with current issues with what is going on with the IRC and the forums, and stuff like a brain teaser that people could PM the writer with, and just getnotificationt they figured it out:]
just be kind of cool, to go around and asking members/mods/admins question about current events and what not:]

crits?

The Main idea s for like a sticky or something that would be weekly updated every Monday or so, and during the week I can get all my material together for each newsletter :D

Its an idea but it would never get done. Just look how often the front page gets updated. The team has a lot to do and are very busy and I dont think they want to worry about a newletter.

Hmm alrighty, I see where you are getting at, but how about if I could take the liberty and construct it myself? Give me to next week and I can scrap some info and make a thread here, and update it weekly if all goes well, I could hang out on the IRC and gjust get some current issues and seeminy try to interview( I know this sounds geekish, but hey something to do!) and other stuff of that sort

I'm thinking I could make a thread of it, and if it gets good enough, it might get stickified :]

*EDIT* I could have info in it, Like I could PM people, and what not, besides it'll be weekly, I could scrap some info in a week!
also in the week I can have contests, like brain teasers, forum member of the week, extra stuff like that.

i like the idea, but they would have to find a few more members to take hold of that part.
which i dont think they have the time.

Then why dont you allow someone like say......MAGUS.....to volunteer to update the site. He seems responsible, thought of the idea, and will probably enjoy doing it. All he has to do is email or IM a couple of the main team members each week to get the heads up of whats going on and then update the main page accordingly.

If no one on the team wants to do it once a week then let someone who does, like Magus. Instead of just goin, "nah, dont feel like it." Negetaive attitudes get you backwards not forwards.

There's more to it than just being busy. Should the team really trust anyone from the outside with that kind of information? Should they have to check and O.K. the site every time Magus updates to make sure he doesn't say too much or give off the wrong impression to the community? It's a lot safer to leave the front page to a real team member who is already inside and knows the boundries between what should and shouldn't be said. It isn't just a matter of posting a screenshot, it's also about represting the dev team, and I'm sure they don't want somebody from the community representing their interests.

Thats like saying the coders dont want the animators to talk update about what the coders are doing. And the modelers dont want the mappers to talk about what they are doing. It doesnt HAVE to be Magus but anyone responsible enuf. If the team members, admins, AND mods are too lazy then what do they care. If Magus decides to post *** porn will they bother to remove it, cuz they dont bother to add anything. Not bashing but this is the attitude im sensing from everyone's posts. You care enough to not let someone thats not a team member update, but not enough to update yourself. Wheres the happy medium? Is there one or are we continue to get updates in a blue moon because the team doesnt want to for no particular reason whatsoever. Updates are for the community so why should it hurt if someone who represents the community gets to inform the community of the team's great progress if they dont have the time to do it?

The idea sounds good on html, but I don't really care to log on to the website, thinking there will be a worthwhile update, but instead seeing somebody named Gokuguysj4351 posting like this:

"Hey guys, how was your weekend? I got wasted on Saturday and I'm not sure what happened to the rest of it. Still no word or screenshots from the team..."

I mean seriously, what else would he post about? I guess he could make some comments about the models in the models section of the forum, but that's about it.

I think Magus is scraping up some experience for his journalism course ;) JK!!!

I'd really prefer to see an example of the content before I make an opinion on this idea. When talking about the official ESF site, tho, it has the responsibility of the team. I mean, you don't see beta testers posting on the site, and they know more than we do on the upcoming ESF updates. A seperate site or thread is a different story, tho. Again, I would like to see some examples before I give my opinion.
