As for comparing ESF to console games, why not? They're games. Is Adventures of My Little Pony better than The Witcher 2? Can I not say one is definitely better than the other because they're not in the same genre? Of course I can. Witcher 2 doesn't have shit on AMLP. ESF doesn't have shit on most games. Once upon a time it was pretty great, but it was a different era. Will 1.3 live up to my expectations? It'll probably surpass them because I almost want 1.3 to fail because of how bad they are at the PR aspect of running development.
I'm not saying you can't, I'm just saying most things shouldn't really be compared because it isn't very fair. When you dumb it down, you're comparing a decade old fan made DBZ mod that was created for a game that's over a decade old with an outdated engine, to a full blown professionally created game that was made for the (usually when compared) next-gen consoles where the developers have the power to go all out. When you get into specifics it doesn't sound as bad as I made it sound, but my point still stands. I also think it's unfair to compare the gameplay of both games because essentially they're very different and the results would end up simply being the opinion on peoples preference.

My personal opinion of ESF is that it's one of the most unique and challenging games ever made, with the possibility of insane growth, being run by people with no drive or vision.

Uh...what is "better" is completely subjective, so obviously their opinion is going to be based on their personal preferences. ESF was better than most DBZ games for a long time. And then, you know, it wasn't. Games improved, ESF stayed the same. It didn't grow, it didn't change. It's been 10 years. Is Dishonored not a better game than Duke Nukem Forever just because of the difference in release dates, engines and mechanics? Was ESF not better than most of the dbz shit out at the time of its release? I thought so, and still do. Is it better than most modern games? Not even close. That's the result of a combination of an old engine and bad design. What are you going to do, right? It's actually blowing my mind that I'm not supposed to compare and contrast things because they aren't exactly the same. That's a terrible way to approach anything.
