Who didn't see this one coming from a mile away?

Vivendi said that the game is scheduled for the holidays.

When Valve announced Half-Life 2 in early May, some were surprised by Valve's firm insistence that the game would be ready to ship on September 30. Today we received word from the game's publisher, Vivendi Universal, that Half-Life 2's release has been delayed until later this year. Without commenting on the delay, a Vivendi Universal representative reaffirmed that the game would ship this year, sometime during the holiday season

--Basically NVIDIAs Fault--
NVIDIA has basically bought Half Life 2 and is forcing them to fix the AA issues with GeForce/GeForce FX class cards. This is also one of the reasons Half Life 2 was played on an ATi class card, they were using AA and AF.

When you use AA on a GeForce/GeForce FX class card on Half Life 2, it caused texture problems around the edges where it tries and figure out what the colors are, Ill try and find the news article.

Shame on you, nVidia. As punishment for your crimes, I'm going to take out my videocard and grind it to pieces!

...well, maybe later. To be honest I didn't think Half-Life 2 was going to make the scheduled date anyway.

Lets not forget Vivendi owns Blizzard. Im not surprized at all HL2 was delayed. Look at TF2, that just kinda disappeared off the face of the earth. And if it takes an extra few months so I can play HL2 with my FX at highest AA then I say what the hell, dun give a ****. People are taking this game too seriously, its got way to much to live up to, there gonna **** it up, I know it.. somehow. I seriously doubt it will last as long as HL1 did.

TF2 is still being made. After valve messed around with a couple engines they decided to go with their own (being halflife2 engine). So they had to ditch all the work they had done and start over again. Look for it being released or at least talked about a while after hl2 comes out.

Heh, i remember that awesome movie with the spy hiding against a wall and grabbing a soldier that walked by. Kind of like a multiplayer Hitman type class. :D

I have a geforce card, so a delay to make it work on these cards = good.

People who own ati cards and dont care cus they dont own a geforce so they dont want it delayed are just selfish...

Yokie, it would also make sense to release it for the ATI users to play while Valve works on GeForce patch, rather than have both card owners wait for both to be completed.

Of course, there's always the petty "You got it first! No fair!" mentality to worry about. And I have a GeForce, so I'd be saying "No fair!" with the rest of them...

Well Nvidia has ownership to HL2. They don't want people going out and buying ATI cards just to play HL2 first, how will that make money for them? If it is delayed Nvidia will get more money rather than releasing it to the ATI people and forcing people to move to ATI if they want to play it right away.

ATI is already set for the next year. With said above releasing halflife 2 and then patching for nvidia cards it wouldn't work. They said that a patch was not feasable. With this recent news it is going to sway people over to ATI not to mention that Carmack has said himself that Doom3 has run better on ATI cards.

He has said that it runs faster in most scenes on Nvidia GeForce FX class cards actually, :). Also, you CAN play Half Life 2 on a GeForce/GeForce FX class card right now, you just can't use AA or there will be some serious artifacts.
