I just wanted to know. Do you guys think the constant Trailers are spoiling the game? Their are like over 10 trailers of HL2 I think. If their delaying it because of Steam or any other crap like that they might as well just forget about it. Steam sucks anyway. Well, atleast when you compare it to WON.

As far as i'm concerned it's their game, they can release it whenever the hell they want (I'm sure the ESF team can testify to that). As for ruining it with trailers? Not really. The plotline/gameplay is what people really get into games for, and the trailers can't really give a proper feel for either of these.

I don't see how trailers could possibly spoil the game. Besides, it's been in production since the original Half-Life came out. For a game thats been in production for that long 10 trailers seems pretty conservative.

Everytime I see a trailer I get even more excited, every new one wows me with a neat little thing you can do, like in the E3 vid where a combine soldier throws a grenade at Gordon, then he uses the manipulator to pick it back up and launch it back, I just can't wait to try this stuff out ingame.
As for delaying the game, well, who cares? You'll get it eventually and there are more than enough things to do in life to keep you going for a couple of months.

Theyve started production on HL3?!

When did that happen?!

On topic: I dont think trailers could ruin a game... they just get you more excited... IMO.

I'm not quite sure when they started HL3, it's probably still a rumor. However i do know they started HL2 before they finished HL1 :)

Out of Curiousity how the heck do you know that Diablos? I've had Half-Life since it was first released. I used to check in at Planet Half-Life alot, incluting alot of other HL News sites, and back then I never heard jack **** about an HL2 project, even so, around 1998/99 Voodoo was still around and ATI was crap. Half of the people that owned HL then ran the game on Software mode. Unless your telling me its a remake of "what was ment to be". I still dont beleive that.

Also the latest trailer I just saw shows off the prologue of the game (like in the first where you run around black mesa going for your hazard suit/test labs). Although thats a minor spoiler of the introduction to the game I'd still would've liked to go on about seeing that for myself. I dont see what is the need of showing more trailers, They have shown that manipulator weapon in nearly all of um. Incluting the Firearms and those alien eggs or what ever the heck they are.

That sounds like a lie, not coming from you that is! :laff: But from who ever had said that. I mean they never even finished Team Fortress 2 did they? Either way, I dont know why it had to be kept a secret. It sounds like their trying to increase their reputation or some **** like that.

No they really have been working on it for over 5 years now. They started it as soon as they finished Half Life 1. I don't see why they shouldn't keep it a secret, at least it stopped the release date bull and the whiners. I mean, it's been delayed for a year since it was announced and everyone under the sun is giving Valve stick for not releasing it yet, think about how bad it would get through 5 years.

As for Teamfortress 2, it's still coming, but development shifted to the Source engine.

Ya......

I mean, several of the valve employees admitted it a while back on the steam forums.

Keeping it secret longer wouldn't have worked

They wanted to build up hype and popularity before they released. Imagine how many more copies they're going to sell now then if they just released it without telling everyone they were making it.

Just those few impatient loser kids that ruined it for the rest of us

Yeah Sierra actually announced that HL2 was in production for more than 5 years when they set the phantom release date.
The delays are troublesome, but it still will be one of the greatest advances in video games ever.

When Half-Life 2 comes out, I think people are going to be dissapointed.
Regardless of it's quality, the unbelievable delays with little to no justification are preposterous. It is my belief that people should never set dates on what is uncertain.

A game being delayed for years would make you expect that it would be fantastic, would you not? But, most likely, it's not going to be fantastic.

Valve's never created an engine before. They didn't design the Half-Life engine, it's one of ID's engines, remade. So why would you expect greatness from Half-Life 2, which is Valve's first attempt at making an engine?

Either one--It'll come out, and people will see that it's just another game, and wasn't worth the years of anticipation,

two, it'll come out, and nobody's computers will be able to run it well. Maybe this'll cause a boost to the computer industry by forcing people to buy better video cards,

or three--It'll come out, and be absolutely fantastic and change the gaming industry forever.

Which do you think is really more likely?
