Half-Life 2 Trailers

The hype alone is going to make HL2 one of the biggest games of the year. Whether it'll be truly great or not is unknown, it certainly looks good, Valve seems to have done a good job with the engine and they certainly know what makes a great game.
The fact that it's been delayed so much really shouldn't make a difference on your opinion of the game, I'm not expecting it to be any better than when I saw the first trailer over a year ago. I mean, if that logic was true then everyone would be expecting Duke Nukem Forever to be the greatest game ever made, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they do.

Well, I still dont buy the whole thing about it being in development since before Half-Life. It just makes no sense to me. Why the secret? And why go through the trouble of possibly remaking Half-Life 2... I mean I know that for sure 6 years ago or so their weren't graphics as powerful as the one you see in HL2 today so must've probably been trying to work out so many diffrent ways of making HL2.

If we were to be told about it like 4 years ago HL2 would probably have the GFX from that of Unreal Tournament or Quake 3 or something. I dont know why the wait. I think their just trying to sound cool or some crap like that. Sounds too much of an excuse to me.

When Half-Life 2 comes out, I think people are going to be dissapointed.
Regardless of it's quality, the unbelievable delays with little to no justification are preposterous. It is my belief that people should never set dates on what is uncertain.

A game being delayed for years would make you expect that it would be fantastic, would you not? But, most likely, it's not going to be fantastic.

Valve's never created an engine before. They didn't design the Half-Life engine, it's one of ID's engines, remade. So why would you expect greatness from Half-Life 2, which is Valve's first attempt at making an engine?

Either one--It'll come out, and people will see that it's just another game, and wasn't worth the years of anticipation,

two, it'll come out, and nobody's computers will be able to run it well. Maybe this'll cause a boost to the computer industry by forcing people to buy better video cards,

or three--It'll come out, and be absolutely fantastic and change the gaming industry forever.

Which do you think is really more likely?

I think a complination of 2 and 3.

It'll come out and be absolutely fantastic, but will nudge people into buying a new video card.

I don't think no one's computer will be able to run it, a 9600XT is perfectly fine for it. But it'll nudge people into wanting to see more and more , and I don't think it'll revolutionalize the gaming industry forever.

Nah I saw one or two of the trailers and the game looked AWESOME, made me wanna get a job, buy a super pc, and get the game.

Alea, do you realize how stupid that statement was? unreal's engine was their first engine, quake was a first engine, id's engine that hl was based off was a first engine, every fps has had a first attempt at making an engine which have all turned out great so far, so I dont see where you are coming from....

On-topic: I dont think the hl2 trailers spoil it in the least. You still have no idea what the whole storyline is, you just know a few bits and pieces of what is in the game, which is just what valve intended

in the end no one is gonna give a rats ass about the engine or the single player or any of that

all people want to do is mod it they wanna jump into the code and start messing with anything and everything

Bah, I don't care about the mods. It's going to be a couple of years for any half decent ones to come out (not counting Counter Strike, Day of Defeat etc) so I think I can make do with the actual game for a while. Having said that, I will probably mess around with the tools and such.

I'm sure you will see good mods pretty much from day one of the release. Tons of people already have the source and are working on mods as we speak. They might have to undergo a few tweaks, but I'm sure they will be ready when HL2 goes gold
