I was reading a post earlier (Attach SBC?), and someone said it would be bad to attach the SBC because it would Piccolo an advantage. However, without the Unattached SBC why play Piccolo? The SBC isn't nearly as strong as some other attacks, the Masenko is...well...crap, and Frieza's fingerlaser is much more effective then the eyelaser. I'm worried that while the balance characters out, they will turn them all into flat characters with no advantages or disadvantages just different "skins". Thus destroying the strategy element, and becoming a pure "shoot'em up" or in this case a "beam and melee'em up".
Anyone here play Warcraft 2? Each unit on the Orc and each unit on the Human side, had an exact replica on the opposing side. Grunt-Footman, Knight-Ogre. There was no strategy involved, everyone builds the strongest guy.
Then in Starcraft things changed, the 1 unit for each race was significantly different then the other race's unit.
Zergling: Quicker Movement, Faster Attack, Less HP, Cheaper
Zealot: Slower Movement, Slower Attack, More HP, Expensive
Marine: Average Movement, Average Attack, Average HP, Decent Price, and a ranged attack.
Every character in ESF should have "pro's" and "con's" about him. For Example, Buu could start of the most powerful in the game, but he only gain's powerlevel at a 1/4th the other characters. Thus he would be a good character for newbies. Goku would be the most powerful character in the game beam wise, however he might drop a significant ammount of PL when he dies to even him out. Thus Goku would be good for expierence players. Vegeta is good the way he is IMO, he is useless until SSJ but then he becomes a hell of a lot stronger. And perhaps, he would gain more PL from dying then other characters to aid him in gaining SSJ. Gohan should start at a very tiny PL of like 100,000, and have transform at 1,500,000 and have a 3x SSJ PL increase. He might also gain PL when his allies fall in battle(He get's pissed when his friends die).
These are just various examples of possibilites. I'm more of a strategy fan then a shoot'em up, and I think ESF has amazing potential to combine both genres. However, I'm but one ESF fan so it would take a lot more ESF fans to get the team to take notice.
To sum up the message: Every character should have a weakness and a strength, and for every character, their should be another character who is good at exploiting that weakness, and another character whose weakness can be severly taken advantage of by character one's strength.
Ex:
Char 1: Various Stunning Attacks(Solar Flare), Slow Movement
Char 2: Powerful Attack, Slow Attack Speed
Char 3: Fast Movement Speed, Weak Attacks
Char 1's solar flare will allow easy attacks on the quick char 3.
Char 2's Powerful attack will devestate Char 1 due to Char 1's less the average ability to dodge.
Char 3's fast movement will allow him to dodge Char 2's powerful attacks.
