First, slam your face into your screen.

You good? Alright, so here's the deal. These guys at Bethesda? They have a job, right. And their job is to make games. Now, they want these games to sell, because they want to make money. So what they do is, and this is important so pay attention, they spend a lot of time and effort, but more importantly, money, making these kinds of games. But its literally their job. They're not going above and beyond. They're doing whats expected of them. Once upon a time, we expected as much from all games, but then we entered the Call of Duty generation of gaming, and I'm not talking about the original CoD 1/2. I remember when all games were ridiculously long, either due to difficulty or just sheer length. So good on Bethesda for doing their job.

But that's where it ends. I am not obligated to give them my money. They decided to take a chance by making an mmo. Hope it works out for them. It isn't up my alley, though and, much like with Kotor, I want a single player game. Not a shitty mmo. If they want my money, I want results. I can't enjoy effort.

Unless you're power leveling your buddy, I don't see how or why those two levels would be grouped. But if they were for some ridiculous reason, the point of dynamic difficulty is to look at the stats and abilities of both players, and then find a happy medium so you don't have one guy being a leech and the other guy doing all the work. You don't make it even harder so one guy is useless and the other guy is struggling the entire time because both the level of the enemies and their numbers have increased. In CoH, for example, the number of enemies increased with the number of players in your party depending on the difficulty. If you chose a harder difficulty, there'd be less enemies, but they'd be significantly harder.

Way to bring up such a specific situation to make your point.
Random online coop can be handled through matchmaking. Difficulty scaling is done by player count, not player level.
Private matches are left to player choice. If have someone of high level to help you and you don't care about half-assing the game, it's your choice.

Cooperative play create way more gameplay opportunities, which, if done right, equals more fun.
Player count versus player level... How are these two things different? I'd like you to go more in to depth and explain, I am interested to hear how your idea is balanced in your head. I hope you're not going to refence the Diablo games in which monsters get about 8% stronger with each additional player, because that game is not only rampant with leeches but they also have NIGHTMARE more, HELL mode, INFERNO mode, etc etc which are prerequisites to even join a high level player's game. It only exacerbates my points further.

Well, we don't owe -any- gaming company jack shit. But I'll be trying the game out of respect, at least. Who knows, it could blow my ******* mind.

GW2 has a good sense for pve co-op. Your level scales according to the area/instance your in and the difference in power comes from all the newer high level skills you learned when going back to an area. I wouldn't mind something like that, but I'm not sure how upscaling would work or if it even could. You might be at level, but your skills would be lacking.

Wrong. They've got extremely high standards for THEMSELVES and we happen to benefit from that. They're not "expected" by some imaginary degree to create such phenomenal content. And why would I bash my head against the screen when I need it to roast you?

Oh you referencing the 8-bit era? You mean the games that were solely driven by story because the graphics and presentations in themselves were so abysmal? The kind of games that you'd only be able to play alone because if your friends tried to pick it up they'd throw down the controller in an instant, because, they weren't immersed in some lengthy storyline? Like an ugly girlfriend with a great personality? Hah! Funny.

Or were you referring to action games which pit you up against bosses that simply danced around the screen causing massive damage while you fumble around with inadequate controls and struggle to survive because you're not given enough options to defend yourself? Hmmmmmm..... doesn't seem like a very strong point to me for the 8-16 bit era.

I never said you were "obligated" to give them your money... And then you go on to assume it's a "shitty MMO" and you haven't even scratched the surface on what this game is actually going to be like. Your words just reek of ignorance to me. "I can't enjoy effort".... WTF does that even MEAN? Have you even PLAYED skyrim? omg...... this is ridiculous... Please ask your girlfriend to slam your fingers with a rolling pin so that you can't type anymore. I will pay her for it.

What's the difference between "Stats and abilities" and LEVELS? DO NOT THEY GO HAND IN HAND? You gain a level, you get new STATS and ABILITIES... gosh... wow... this is sad.

My point is with such a large level discrepancy being commonplace in the theoretical setting of a typical "Multiplayer Elder Scrolls" game, there would be MAJOR balancing issues... It'd either be way too hard for someone, or way too easy for someone else. Are you suggesting, if say a level 50 was joined by a level 25 player, that we create a massive army of level 15 foes?? And then what, the 50 just AoE's them all and done deal? You're not thinking it through.

We happen to benefit? What happens if they make shitty games and no one buys them? Who's going to buy an Elder Scrolls game that has 20 hours worth of content and little in the way of replayability? Probably you, but I think its safe to assume you're in the minority, and they'd go bankrupt.

Oh you referencing the 8-bit era? You mean the games that were solely driven by story because the graphics and presentations in themselves were so abysmal? I'm actually talking about just about everything I played on the PSX/2 and PC while growing up. You know, when selling a 15 hour game for 30-50 dollars would have gotten you laughed off the face of the planet, because who the hell would buy a single player/local MP shorter in length than you are obtuse? MP has been an excuse to put out shoddy title time and again. TES doesn't have that luxury. But this isn't about length of a game. This is about Bethesda doing what they're paid to do. I don't get tips for doing a great job, nor do I expect hand outs. They shouldn't and they don't. They know they have to work to prove that their mmo isn't another WoW clone, so by instantly giving in and falling prostrate before them, you're actually doing the company and the gaming community a disservice. Every endeavor should push the envelope. It just so happens I don't give two shits about mmos, and certainly not a fantasy one at that.

I never said you were "obligated" to give them your money... And then you go on to assume it's a "shitty MMO" and you haven't even scratched the surface on what this game is actually going to be like. Your words just reek of ignorance to me. No, you didn't say we were obligated. You said we should play the game "out of respect". Yeah, no.

It's an mmo. I've already stated I don't like mmos. The best mmo is still shitty because its an mmo. That's how I feel about the genre. You *****ing about how we all need to give them our money and sacrifice our first born children because they made Skyrim isn't going to change that. If anything, knowing that people like you are going to populate their servers only cements my decision to stay away.

What's the difference between "Stats and abilities" and LEVELS? DO NOT THEY GO HAND IN HAND? You gain a level, you get new STATS and ABILITIES... gosh... wow... this is sad.
And so you've chosen to completely ignore how other games have solved this issue and, instead, prefer to stick to your ridiculous narrative. Good on you. It isn't easy to completely ignore reality in favor of self-created machinations.

My point is with such a large level discrepancy being commonplace in the theoretical setting of a typical "Multiplayer Elder Scrolls" game, there would be MAJOR balancing issues... Do you ride the short bus with Jason? Why is a level 50 being teamed with a level 25? Why, in your scenario, is the match making system completely broken? Your scenario is broken from the outset; a product of a broken mind, perhaps.

TL: DR: SWOTOR, the chosen one, is hilariously bad and, like every other mmo out there, TES will end up the same.

Thank you for admitting defeat in such a passive way :) it proves your ability to think is... Lacking... Especially since you just accidentally sent me a smiley face, uhh, thanks?

I'd respect your opinion if you had one, but it seems like you're just a bit too tipsy on the hatorade.

I guess after 6,889 posts your fingers have grown tired... Rest now poor friend, for your defeat was a swift one. It's all over now.

Edit: good job on correcting that smiley face, lol.

Both of you are irritating.

Dio, ToR isn't bad, it's just standard. If it was bad, it wouldn't have gotten almost shining, golden reviews on release. I just think that pay to play is on the way out and it didn't have any end-game content.

Saiyan, you're very annoying. I dislike you. Stop, please. Just stop.

Oh no, some nobody doesn't like me, I guess I should change my entire persona for one blow-hard with no personality... kay... I'll think about it.

ToR had what's called a social backlash. People are unwilling to pay for subscriptions any more. That model was acceptable when it was the ONLY game out there which provided both the multiplayer/RPG experience that we've all grown to love. But now there's TONS of these games out there and every other game is multiplayer so the WILLINGNESS to pay for it has gone out the window. However since going F2P they've generated a LOT more money than before and have a lot more players. The GAME wasn't the issue, it was the business model.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is someone too dim to understand I addressed his post point by point in his quote. It's been a pleasure.

@Dark: I gave SWTOR a chance because I wanted to play another Old Republic game. I gave it something I don't usually give. A break. And it broke my heart because it just isn't good. I don't care about reviews. I care about my experience with the game. And it wasn't good.

@Ridiculous: That isn't entirely true. If CoH/V came back, I'd be paying for that in a heartbeat. The issue is with sub-par games requiring you to pay for them. DCUO is an alright game. Would I pay any amount of money to keep playing it? Not a chance in hell. It isn't good enough to warrant a subscription. Champions Online started out with promise, but it became clear whatever magic they had when creating CoH was long gone.

It's, of course, fine if you don't like it. But your experience is that you don't like it, not that it isn't good. If it was bad, it wouldn't have survived Biowares fumbling with the f2p model and almost severe lack of advertising.

I get the feeling you probably don't like WoW and similar games, right?

I played CoH/V, CO and DCUO basically from the moment they came out. I tried SWTOR when it first came out. I haven't played WoW since beta, so I don't even know what's going on with that game. Of the lot, CoH/V were the best, and SWTOR was the most disappointing.

I'd just like to say pointing out that me not liking is my opinion doesn't change that you thinking its good is also an opinion. When I say its garbage, I'm not saying its literally refuse.

*sigh* another guy on the internet with a superiority complex. You'll not engage my response to you on an intellectual level because you simply can't. Because the weak always try to band together to take on the strong... Consider me goku knocking down cooler clones by the dozens ;-) yeah... Like Katt williams said, if you don't have haters then you're doing something wrong so bring it on you drones.

But Anyways, TESO has an amazing development team behind it and they've got my thumbs-up!

To you, yes. I liked both the over-arching story and the combat, when they finally unbugged it. Which is why I play it over WoW, now. And I won't deny, it's nice that I don't have to pay for it. I'm not ordering or even suggesting that you play it, but credit where it's due. Combat was standard, but very polished. I never got tired of the point and click, and ToR does a good job with the feel after you get up to the higher levels. Being a knight felt like being a knight. The voice acting is -mostly- great. Story is well thought out and has a lot of throwbacks to the previous games. I even liked the companions in the game. A good portion of them had fascinating back-stories and good character/humor.

@BlueSaiyan

You don't debate someone. You debate with someone. And he's long since proven he's skilled at it, while I only just noticed your existence a few days ago.

Stop being dense. I answered each of your points within the quote in my post. See the bold? You didn't type that. I did. The TLDR was for you because I assumed you were too emotionally invested to read through all of it. Instead, it turns out you're just incompetent.

I like RobiZ, I like Skyrider, I like a good few forum members apart from this list. I dislike you and filipe. Is that cyberbullying? No, it's not. Disliking someone is not cyberbullying.

Furthermore, have you noticed that by say that someone has a superiority complex is to have a superiority complex yourself? You believe you are superior to Diomedes. You are no better than him. Far worse, IMO. At least Diomedes attempts a debate without it ending in 'Well, you have a superiority complex/You can't match me on an intellectual level because I didn't notice your responses.'.

Oh, I get it, you just totally screwed up the whole "Quote" thing. jeez, and then you had the nerve to call someone else "dense" LOL the definition of irony... Okay... I'll get back to your points soon enough.

I stuck up for Filipe, and called you a cyber bully for being rude to a guy who's first language wasn't english...

Also, I don't have a superiority complex. If I did, I would have reveled in your bullying of Filipe. Because if you > him and my superiority complex makes me think that I > you, then by theory I > both of you. But no. You're just too thick to see that you're just an average troll, but I'll not be too mean to you because I worry that you're too young for me to even be engaging with right now.

A game balanced by player level will run into issues where either the high level player gains nothing by running with lowbies, or the low level players are getting massacred by encounters made for higher levels. This could be fixed artificially by averaging the player level, but it would mean a lot of time consuming fine tuning. It's not impossible, but also not feasible.

Now, if you only take in account player numbers, you can create more interesting situations for the players. You could take the Diablo road of increasing enemy health/attack/etc, but that's also artificial (also, not fun).
A simple and fun way of dealing with this is increasing enemy count, which assures each player has something different to do.

But if you only add the same kind of enemy, over and over, the combat gets boring!, you'd say. Of course it would, that's why, such as players within a group, the enemies must be diverse and working together. Since you know how many players are in the field, you know how encounters should behave. If there's a large number of players, enemies would use flanking maneuvers, attack in big waves or have creatures which require more than one player to take down. For smaller groups, add enemies which sneak up and jump at the players (pushing them to go back to back), add enemies with weak spots only available if they are attacking someone else. And the list can go on.

Player count balancing is also useful for platforming and puzzle type encounters.
For example: A part of a dungeon requires you to go through a hallway with swinging ceiling axes.
SINGLEPLAYER: With good timing, you can run through without dying. After you reach the end, a lever will disable the trap.
Two Players: The axes are moving fast enough so the player can't get through without being hit. The second player must hold a lever which slows down the axes to allow the first player to pass. The first player reaches the end and disables the trap using a lever.
Three Players: The same hallway now has closed gates in between the fast moving axes from the previous point. The gates can only be opened by standing on pressure plates along the swinging axe hallway. A third player now has to follow the first and run behind him to keep the gates open.

That would be all, for now, since I have to get going, but you can come up with reasons why player level balancing is superior in the meanwhile. The discussion is fun, nonetheless.
