For the current 1.2.3 version, you have to use Valve Hammer. Google it, make sure you get the GoldSource version though, and not the Source version.
For the new version of ESF for example(the one that has yet to be released), you can use any modelling program that can export .OBJ files, such as 3ds Max, Cinema4d, etc.

The maps are .bsp file...but you can`t edit a .bsp file.So you can`t edit a map.
Search on google for some tutorials if you want to learn mapping in Hammer.

You get the wad files with Half Life if I remember correctly.

Its not textures.wad

.wad files are textures. In the ESF directory you have esf.wad and it has some default ESF textures.

Serriously you should read though the following in the order i post.

1.) http://twhl.co.za/tutorial.php?id=25
2.) http://twhl.co.za/tutorial.php?id=23
3.) http://twhl.co.za/tutorial.php?id=24
4.) http://twhl.co.za/tutorial.php?id=26
5.) http://twhl.co.za/tutorial.php?id=27
6.) http://twhl.co.za/tutorial.php?id=30
7.) http://twhl.co.za/tutorial.php?id=31

If you give up before finishing atleast the first 4 then you should rethink about wanting to map

There is a way to edit a map. But you should first try making a few of your own. Otherwise you'll just screw the map you're editing... so I'm pass for now, won't tell ya >:p

Decompilers are bad. They will make weird slices if the vertex manipulation isnt donne correctly. And even if it is donne youll still be getting some weird slices.

Decompiling is only possible with simple map structure.

S2K is an old ESF clan if I remember correctly. They made their own maps, nothing special.
