hello again, I am having a crashing problem with esf for awhile now. I have looked on this board for answers/faqs and have found none. The game crashes everytime I play (unless I quit before it crashes) But I never got past 4 million pl. I only experience this problem with esf mod and not thespecialist. It usually crashes when I power up, ascend, descend, swoop, block, beams, pretty much anything that I do can make it crash for that matter. When it crashes my whole computer locks up and I can still hear the last sound effect replaying over and over again until i restart my machine, sometimes the mp3 music still plays perfectly. Im not playing with the high quality sounds or the hardware settings under audio.

I have reinstalled halflife and esf and still that did not help the problem. I also was playing in software and open_GLmode and that still dont fix the problem, even with all the tweaks/fps configs out there. I am usually able to last longer playing with direct mode on. This wasn't a problem for the esf previous to 1.1. One thing I have noticed is that I play with bots since I dont play online. I have read somewhere that the bots causes esf to crash. By the way I have evm installed, I just want to ascend to a higher level but esf wont let me  but with or without evm, esf still crashes.

Now for my system specs. I have windows 98 se. Directx 8.1, 750mhz 256ram 8mb video (the video card cant be the problem as the game runs pretty good)At the moment im not going to buy a new pc, i will have to stick to my old laptop. So can anyone figure out the problem? thanx

I get the same prob, but I usually last until somewhere around 40 mill. I don't play with EVM, and I use the Direct Draw. Switch to Software graphix mode and see if that fixes it.

No, DON'T switch to software mode. Open GL or Direct 3D. ESF is NOT compatible with software mode, and it WILL crash.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Windows 98 is causing part of your problem.

Most likely, the problem has something to do with memory. So..
1) Your 256 mb of RAM runs out (I don't think it's this)
2) Your virtual memory craps itself and crashs half-life (Very likely)
3) Your 8 mb video cards memory just isn't good enough. (Does anyone else run EF fine with an 8mb video card?)

You must not be used to beta version mods. Ever play an early version of DoD? That was brutal. And besides, you could just not play. The game cant crash if you dont run it.

They can't make a patch if they don't know what the problem is. Maybe you should post your system specs and what video mode you're running half-life in?
