Parents have a large influence over one's life... although saiyan pride is a rare character, most people do end up becoming seriously troubled by these kinda things. My aunt is really messed up and dependant now, and she's 50, my dad (my aunt is his sister) somehow managed to ignore the beatings and ignorations that they got when they were children... When it all comes down to it, the most important decider of a person's character/sanity is his will to overcome.
That's why i think that there are people that are potential criminals and madmen that will do what people do in cartoons/movies. These people will only become psychos if their environments are bad. That's why the acctual events spoken of are relatively rare.
btw wasn't that person from columbine affected by Doom?

Completley agree with Pride, parents just really need to get their act together. I have old-fashioned parents, up until I was 15, they were strict as hell on me. If I got in any trouble, it was an ass-whooping. After 15 they got involved in their jobs a lot more but by then, I was set straight. It's disgusting to see how some parents can be so irresponsible, leaving their kids too long in the car, not paying attention to weapons and drugs, or just not knowing where their kid is all the time. I remember back in the day when one of my friends parent's really didn't really care what he did. I thought he was lucky as hell, but I soon realized that it was the last thing I wanted. My parents have always cared about me and they still do to this day, they aren't perfect, but they've taught me well.

You can't blame parents for everything. My roommate is a straight up A student, always has his act together, nicest guy in the world. His older brother, same kind of guy. His younger brother on the other hand, is out of control, doesn't do well in school, smokes up, drinks, causes trouble.

So what happened here? His parents raised two perfectly normal children, but what happened with his younger brother? I'm sure they did the same thing did for their other two children, but why did one turn out a badass?

Parents seldomly do the same thing for two children or more.

Incidentally, my family's the same way, Optimus. My brother's an unemployed stoner who's in his sixth year of high school.

There are only two things to fault--the parents, first and foremost, and secondly, the will power of the person involved. My history isn't as nice as people might think; my father's an alcoholic and a fairly consistent drug user. He's at the point where he can barely understand what day of the week it is, he's so burnt out. We argue all the time; he just starts making up facts out of the blue (that a hot toaster oven top can ignite a metal tray and burn a house down, for instance...when the metal tray goes IN the toaster, incidentally) to help facilitate his arguments. My mother doesn't even hear me frigging talk, sometimes; good woman, but I always say the payroll department at the bank she works at is more of a mother to me than she was. See, I have these cousins, and they all have ****ed up lives, cause their mother ran out on them suddenly and their father was a total tool. My mother has been nurturing these cousins their whole lives...so I've been watching very carefully what a good mother she is to her two nieces and nephew, and getting to compare it with who she was to me. The difference?

She KNOWS them. She does NOT know me.

The parents of kids like the columbine kids did not know them. I mean, here's the bottom line right here people:

Whether GTA3 or some anime makes kids decide to become violent psychopaths, it is irrelevent--neither such thing nor any other similar form of media would find its way to a child that has good parents who know them and care what goes on in their lives.

And whether a game made Klebold and Harris shoot up Columbine or not, the fact remains that the kids were building bombs and hoarding firearms and the parents could have prevented it completely if they had just paid some god damned attention.

Hence my point--the parents are fully to blame, I think, because it funnels down to them. "GTA made me do it"--well who's the idiot parent that gave your unemployed ass the 50 bucks for that game? Who let you frigging play it without even asking what it was about? Even then, in this case the kids were already frigging gone. The idea of getting a gun and killing people is something that has been around since the gun was INVENTED. They didn't get the idea from some video game...the video game got its basis from the idea.

A.) There should be no guns. We as civilians have no need of them. If there are, they should only be registered to people over the age of 25, after they pass detailed inspection. PERIOD.

or B.) PARENTS SHOULD NOTICE WHEN THEIR CHILDREN ARE PLOTTING TO MURDER PEOPLE WITH AUTOMATIC WEAPONS.

Better yet, he's B2.)

IF YOUR KID IS ACTING LIKE A ****ING NUTJOB, YOU SHOULD PROBABLY KEEP A GOD DAMNED EYE ON HIM NEXT TIME.

I mean...let's face it, guys...in EVERY case...the parents had the power. And in EVERY case...statistically speaking...the parents say things like, "We never knew" or "we had no idea."

Well...pay attention, and you might have a clue next time.

Sometimes people are insane, although we are all a little insane. It varies, sometimes it tips the scale and.... well you know what happens. TV, family, you, friends, everything influences you. Thats my idea. So maybe it isn't a long paragraph. But i like it.

I love this thread.... it shows how much parents "pay attention"

They would rather watch their favorite sitcom... before realizing their kids are "evolving" with the concepts of GTA: Vice City. Some parents just let the TV raise their children. Watch the movie "Cable Guy", and you know what I mean.

I noticed that Parents in a way get lazy raising their second child. They try to give this kid the same respect and all but they end up giving less most of the time.

I think that this censorship of the cartoons or video games needs to stop to a point. Dont let the sexual stuff get by but the blood and gore should make it through. If parents dont want their kids watching DBZ because goku go a booboo on his head then they can easily just change the channel.

WHAT IS WITH parents these days...instead of changing a channel they would rather make a lawsuit about the blood on this particualr cartoon. Which one takes more time??? 2.5 seconds to about 4 months and on..HMMMM. And the cartoon channels cant fight this stuff. They would look bad if they said "we dont give a damn about what you think about our shows...shut up and change the channel". They would probobly get lots of bad press.

SUBTOPIC: THis also has been bothering me

SNOOP DOG does weed right???
Ok its illegal to smoke it right???
BUT HOW come he can ON FREAKING TV AND IN THE MOVIES he can say "yeah I love my weed" AND he doesnt get arrested. Heres my theory...Snoop is the countries "weed guy" hes the guy that everyone loves because he can talk about weed live and not get into any trouble. I think he got arrested once but he was bailed by a fund on the internet i think LOL. Its just fun I guess for the U.S to see a guy who can defy the police and get away with it. ANd everyone loves Snoop....

I think it is wonderful that we all blame our parents

It's the easiest way to shirk off responsibility...truth be told, the parents can only go so far. Yeah it sucks, some of us don't have the best parents, my father has never told me he loves me in my entire life...**** happens. But there comes a point where people need to pull their mouth off of the teet and grow a pair. The things you do, you conciously do. And if your parents have taught you any morals, which is pretty much what they need to do as parents, you should be able to make proper decisions on your own...hell you don't even need your parents to tell you that doing **** like crack or gambling all of your money away aren't exactly the smartest things to do. It's called common sense.

But since this has gone off topic, I'll try to at least give some comment on the actual topic starter. Cartoons only should be sensored in the ways of their time slots. Putting an anime that has large amounts of gore or violence at a late night time slot is all that television stations need to do. The rest IS actually the parents' responsibility if that child is too young for said show.

Back on the actual topic here, and not about parents.

The fact remains that children around the ages of 3-8 or so, are simply not thinking the way you are explaining. They don't think "wow, that's cool." or "ew, blood, that's gross." Children are learning acceptable behaviours. They're not thinking anything.
