animals are animals.. it can only clean itself so well. it will get dirty, and it will stink... to say it will never happen is, thats right. ignorant!

dogs breath happens with neglect.. again going back to petcare... if you take care of a dog its not going to stink... if you take care of a cat its not going to stink... yes cats clean themselves.. a lot of them get hairballs. to say yours did not is irrelevant to the topic at hand.

teaching a dog to go outside is a temporary job. once its done its done. cleaning materials should be available already unless you live in some kind of trash hole... a cats litterbox is a job that needs to be taken care of for the rest of that cats life. so for however long it takes to train a dog, you need to buy kitty litter and etc for the cats whole life... expence would be weighted towards the cat

yes.. my dog barks.. oh gosh no.. call the police i cant stand the noise... and again, simply because your cat was an exeptional specimen does not make it so for the rest of the cats of the world.

Cats keep themselves clean, and they do it much better than dogs, because dogs don't do it at all. FACT. END OF THAT PART OF THE STORY.

Cleaning supplies, as in dog shampoo, dog soap, etc.. As well as the added increase of having to wash the towels you use on the dog. That outweighs the cost of disposal kitty litter and boxes. Look up the prices online. END OF THAT PART OF THE STORY.

no one is saying cats dont clean themselves... all im saying is that it will happen... and it will need to be taken care of.

i dont own any dog supplies and my dog smells fine. so obviously its not a need if you have a dog... none of my friends that own dogs have any either... but you know what, i may be wrong. ill admit that. cats however need a place to do their buisness... so its a must have with a cat.

The point is that cats don't need to be bathed. Hardly, if ever. I've had to bathe one of my cats, once in my life. Because someone spilled paint on it.

So you're saying you don't wash your dog? God, that must be gross. I'm surprised you don't notice it.. Maybe the smell is uniform in the house, though.

Dogs don't need a "place" to go to the bathroom?
What do you do, eat his droppings and drink his urine? He needs a place to do it. You go out and defile the Earth with it.

and as far as the whole pain and alea convo goes...i have 3 cats and 3 dogs...yup...6 pets...and guess what...ive spent way way WAY more money on my cats than i have on my dogs...u have cat litter...declawing..garbage bags for the litter...and that has to be bought at least 2 or 3 times a month...the only thing ive ever had to pay for with my dogs are their vet bills (getting them fixed...which i did with my cats as well so they cancel each other)...food (duh)...and bathing supplies (which again i bought for both because i give all my animals regular FLEA BATHS)...so yea...alea..ur arguements have no grounds...u have to do more in the maintenence as far as financially and effort wise than u do for a dog

not only that...but what do u get in return?...a dog that is treated well will love u for the rest of its life...a cat?...dont get me started...i have a cat that ive had since it was born...its mother died not too long after its birth so i litterally had to feed it myself...and what do i get for it?...a stuck up *****y ass animal that would rather claw me to peices (if it had claws) and hiss and spit at anyone that gets neer her than look at u...hows that for grattitude?..

but anyway..dogs rule...and the fact that cats smarter than dogs?...please...u dont see any seeing-eye cats do u?...or how bout police cats...or oo oo u dont see cat shows do u?...where they do tricks and stuff?...didnt think so

dogs, why you ask? they are great, they never like to run off, they usually dont mess wif mah furniture (or atleast the ones i got), and for me there my best friend. They seem to behave most of the time. As im to lazy to post many other stuff, the only downside is when tey humpz you :O

yes i had a cat. i think i mentioned that somewhere earlier in the thread. technically it was my sisters but its the same thing. i had to take care of it and etc. we had to give it away because it constantly shredded up my mothers plants, attacked family members and friends, and attacked the dog on multiple occasions.

and yes, im fully aware not every cat is like that.

This answer's Snow's reply, too. Yes, I have had both cats and dogs.

And Uub, I'm sorry--but you're just an idiot. Declawing a cat is cruel and unnecessary. So that doesn't count as an "average cat" allowance. Also, you don't usually have to give cats flea baths, especially if it's an Indoor cat, as mine are. So that's not an average expense. However, many if not most dogs, are outdoor, so that means you have to give the dog flea baths, and if you have the dog and cat at the same time, the cat as well.

Oh, I guess they do have grounds. And I guess you're an arrogant jackass who's proven to be nothing more then a flamer.

Feeding a cat isn't enough to earn it's love or affection. If your cat isn't affectionate, it means you did a piss poor job of raising it, and seeing from your attitude, that isn't hard to believe.

Intelligence--this isn't even a debate. It's a proven fact.

Dogs are useful in drug enforcement because they have keen senses of smell. Cats can also be taught to do tricks. You can explain why there aren't cat-trick shows for yourself. Maybe it's dignity, or something along the lines of "A dog, like a small child, will do what it's told, for the most part" as opposed to a cat, like a teenager, has it's own free will and mind. But, that's just a possible explanation.

and just so u know...declawing is VERY popular..y?..because ppl value their furniture...theres another reason y dogs rule over cats...they might get a shoe or two but thats only when they are young and dont know any better...and the only way that declawing is cruel...is if u take it to a vet that cuts off their first knuckle...there are alternatives u know...and also...another reason ppl get their cats declawed...have u ever heard of a thing called "cat scratch feaver"?...apparently not...but there is no vaccine u can give a cat so that they cant transmit it...its transmitted from their claws that have been in their cat box scratching at feces...its a bacterial infection that has been known to kill humans no matter how well they take care of their cats...i dont think ive ever heard of a well cared for dog giving anyone a deadly disease..have u?.

o wait..i know what ur gonna say...theres rabies right?...well theres a vaccine both for the animal and for u in case u get it...so finding a dog with rabies is VERY rare...much less having someone die from it.

and sorry to say that yes..i give my cats flea baths because guess what...i have indoor dogs that go outside as well..but when they go outside with me...guess what happens...they have a chance of getting fleas...so instead of letting my animals suffer with fleas and run the risk of the dogs giving them to the cats...i bath them ALL...and i didnt flame u for anything...the only time i EVER mentioned u in that entire post was to adress your arguement with pain...and at the end when i said that ur arguements have no grounds...YOU are the one that started flaming so guess what...u get a flame back...everything that u have said has had a refute...and has been proven wrong...but YOU are the one that has decided to turn this thread into a flame war

anyway...to end all this crap...this thread is a thread started on the basis of OPINIONS...any facts that are stated for or against something will be flamed and/or have an attempt at them to be proven wrong...it has been proven countless times on these forums that NOONE can have an opposite opinion from anyone else on these forums without being flamed for them...and there is nothing that either side can say that will shut the other up...so i accept my warning and will leave this thread for good as long as im not brought up again in the manner that i was in aleas post...because if it happens again...ill prolly end up banned for a nice 2 weeks
