We don't have the capability to deflect an asteroid. What you've seen in ridiculous movies like "Armageddon" and "Deep Impact" is what is known as science fiction.
If a large Asteroid, "the size of texas" was hurtling towards us, yes, we might try to stop it. But it wouldn't be anything like in those movies, and it most likely wouldn't work.
uhhh what you mean not all ICBMs are nuke equiped i think they are called intercontinentelBALLISTICmissles for a reason. all icbms we have are nukes.
and assuming ive even seen armageddon or deep impact is rediculous ive never seen those movies. and i dont plan to im not a movie type person.
in space things change a lot, something the size of texas would be weightless as long as we apply enough force to deflect it it can be done.
and it doesnt even have to be applied all at once. we can send missle after missle and hell we can prolly even put it to a total stop or send it back were it came from. if we can hit a missle to missle i think we can hit something the size of texas with a nuke or a smaller weapon.
