a reverse pack install question

So since I LOVED the old version of esf, I want to try and play it again. But considering I'm a compy noob i'm confused on how to get this to work.
First off just to clarify, can the old version be played with people online?
So I dled the files, and I tried to install the client, but there is weird stuff a noob like me doesn't understand.
So can someone walk me through the process of installing the reversed pack, and getting me online to play?
Or make a walkthrough thread that could get stickied, and post the link here.
