Hey I'm starting this thread for everyone learning to model =), including me. Hopefully people can get answers for their questions on modeling here. To get things started, here is my question.

Q: Is there a way to change the color of the space around* the model? Because when I render a model the background is always black for some reason.

yes, you click:

render - environment

from there you can change your background colour, or even add a background image.

hit F10 to bring up your render options, select your output destination, and choose an AMV or whatever format you want it to be, along with the resolution.

in the material properties, you need to adjust its Specular and Gloss properties.

for very complext reflections and the like, you should study raytracing techniques.
