Not only does your ESF has to be up-to-date, but you need to update your Half-Life version to 1.1.1.0 in order to play online... tons of download mirrors available (try google), download the patch and update your HL manually.

There are no 'various' ESF videos, only one in the spotlight as of now. You can check the "archive" button on the ESF website to see what other videos were released previously, but some (or most) of the older video links might be dead.

It's most likely that you don't have an updated version of Half-Life / CS and/or ESF. Update your Half-Life version to 1.1.1.0, or CS version to 1.5 and make sure you're running ESF Beta 1.1 (the current version).
