So let's open it up.

Do you think there is really such a thing as "Best friends forever"? a friend who you met early in life and will be there for you in thick and thin for eternity (well, more like 40 years or so... you know).

Or maybe do you think we have temporary best friends and we replace them all the time - when we move, when we change work places, when we get married - with the ones we grew tired of?

Are you still in touch with a friend long long ago that you knew for around 10 years or more? Passed high-school, found a career and passed through all other life's milestones together.

What is your current life's friends circle?
How much time do you know them?
Are they really close to you?
Maybe they are just partying friends?
Maybe more?
Maybe your life are surrounded by your family at this stage?

Share your feelings and thoughts.

At my age, 35, I find that I have indeed kept some of those BFF people around this long. You may lose track of them over time, or find out via facebook that they've moved across the country. And yeah, some of those BFF people from my childhood are just not around, I have no idea what happened to some of them. One of them even died, tragically leaving a family behind. I've made some new freinds who will always be in my life barring some horrible betrayal.

I have none of my freinds from Elementary
Five from Junior High, one of which I married.
One from High School
None from College
Quite a few from Work after and during college.

And the best part about the old freinds, you can pick that relationship back up at any time and it feels like your still 15, haning out in your parents' basement.

I had some freinds from high school there, but I didn't live on campus, so there weren't any people I spent a lot of time with. I was doing a full time job while working, full time college, and had a full time tae kwon do career. I had to sleep while people partied.

Best Friends do exist. I never was one to have a whole bunch of supposed "friends" who you just say Hi and move on. Both my best friends I met in High School, one who I got to know in High School itself, who I found plenty in common with, and the other who was just a good classmate in school, but on going to the same Uni, got together through previous companionship. Now how would you decide what counts as a Best friend and as a good friend. I'll try to give a few examples.

Best friends are those with whom you can be yourself 24/7 without worrying about any form of repercussion. Who wouldn't have you any other way. Who would wait for you for hours just because you said, "Lets eat together." Who would travel more than half-way across a country just because you live there. Who would dump in cash for you when you are in a fix and actually threaten to beat you up if you talk about repaying them.

I could go on for ages, but there is no need. Because the main distinction you can tell if you have best friends, is there are people you want to be with, not because you are forced or you get something back out of it, but because it is incessantly fun just to be with them. And I have been blessed to have two of them, friendship having been made inherently stronger during out short stay together in Uni, where we used to illegally store the third without the management knowing. Years from now, when I will remember the most fun I ever had, I would remember those times, happy as a bumble bee.

And I don't doubt our friendship will strengthen, years from now, when all of us have completed our studies, and we are free to be our old idiotic selves again. You see, we made a promise with ourselves, that no matter what, we will never change, for the worse.

And how many real friends would you say you have?

The definition of "real" friend is pretty vague. I would say I have somewhere between four and ten "real friends". Then 20-30 friends I just hang out with and drink with.

The 20-30 people you call friends, I call acquintances. I would define a real friend not unlike Z Power did. The group I hang out in consists of roughly 10 people. I would call 2 of those friends.

Same here. I do have some "normal" friends (meaning people that i get along with pretty well) but they're a few.

The group I hang out in consists of roughly 10 people. I would call 2 of those friends.
And the same again. One from elementary school(it's called general school in my country, 8 years in total) and one from high school. That's about it.

I mean 20-30 people I can talk to about a lot of stuff, and 4 to 10 people I trust. Those 20-30 are friends, make no mistake about that. They're not just people I know, they're people I've spent considerable time with. I have a list of acquaintances that is so long I just decided "**** it," and started ignoring everyone I didn't immediately recognise as a friend.
