Finally I got my cell games map for the IS clan done and I have started right away with another idea I had.
After I have seen through the page on ESF-World in the mapping section I can see there is alot of mappers who have made a volcano map, and then I thought: "I want to make a volcano map too!" and that is what I have started on.

This is still heavy WIP but here are some pics of it so far:

I still need to fix some here and there and then I need the volcano and some hills, so there is enough to work on.

It looks somewhat similar to ESF_Riverside, otherwise it's pretty nice, I wanna see the valcona though.

@mf29: I also had in minf to make a river map but then I thought I could make that map and this one in one map. Because otherwise the river map would only have some rivers in it and that is already been done some times before. And about the volcano, not done yet ^^

And thx for the replies so far. Btw this is only the second map I have used the 2048 texture technique. I really hope this one is going to better than my first map where I used that technique.

1. Make it bigger.
2. Make the hole at the top much bigger, instead of like someone poked a hole in it with a stick.
3. It'd be better if it wasn't at the edge of the map. Put it near the center, that way it gets more attention. But don't make it too high, or it will obstruct the players.

It is near the center ^^

But yea make it a bit bigger.

And dont forget to put lava inside.

Should I maybe try and make the hole round?
Or how do you think it should be?

Looks good but the top of the volcano is too square just add more brushes and make it rounder, what's the face count so far? I like that small river and cliff at the bottom, maybe if you want make a few more hills oh and if you want I think I have a nice model for plants made by geossj4! ^^

I have made the volcano bigger and rounder at the top, should it be flat or should I move the vertics in different hights?

Btw thanks for the replies guys.

And about more hills, I don't think the face count will allow this. It's above 1500 so I don't know, and I haven't made the last hills yet.

And said above C&C is welcome.

I made a few references to show you the differences of Your Volcano and Real Volcano:

As you can see real volcanos have crater type of thing on top and they are also like real mountains, they arent as steep from the lowest part of the mountain...
And they all look kind of like this because they appear when two tectonic plates underground gets pushed towards another making it happen like this:

If you want to make realistic volcano you should make it more like this. But if wanna keep your volcano like that, it doesnt bother me...

exactly what i was going to suggest Jariroth. Trust me it will look much better. cos now it wont just jut out of no where. Youve inspired me to make a volcano map now :p (dont worry i can only map for ut2k4 so dont worry :p)

Well Jariroth hit the nail on the head.

Imagine a big hill with an impact crater instead of a peak. And you have your vulcano.

hmm, I think I have an idea for you, make it less steep like said above. Then also make it like a crater by using more brushes then you make a cilinder(spelling?) form for the inside using vertex manipulation, then you'll be able to make the lava be high in the volcano and maybe make it erupt every while(though that will look super crap in hl1 ^^) okay, I don't have the best idea but hey, atleast I tried.

Oh and another thing, have you made all the other cliffs yet with your 1500 or are some still waiting to be lifted, etc? If there are still a few then just leave my idea, your wpoly might get a bit high.

I made that in 5 mins ^^

No big detail but me thinks it would work. Just dont know what kind of size do you think on using for your map.

Oh and the number of brushes could be cut down in areas. But as said this is a 5 min work example i did for you ^^
