Alright, my headset has worked perfectly since I got it (for $60 I might add - Plantronics DSP-400). Anyways, I was on TEAMSPEAK earlier today and started up NATURAL SELECTION and was waiting for a friend to put up his server, but I noticed no one could hear what I was saying when I tried talking to them when we started playing in the server. I hadn't changed ANYTHING in my configuration of my mic or ANYTHING!

This evening I discovered that when I try to talk on my mic, it records whatever sound I'm listening to on Winamp or anything else that produces sound on my computer. Anyone know WTF is going on?

This is stupid to ask, but is the mic and speakers plugged into the right places?

If so(which I'm sure they are) an option had to have been changed somewhere if it is recording output rather input.

Doube click the volume icon in the taskbar (or go to Control Panel), then the Options menu, make sure Advanced Options is checked, go to Options->Properties, Adjust Volume For - Recording, and make sure you've got Microphone checked.

It sounds like you've got Stereo Mix checked.

looks like you're going to have to re-install some drivers to me. Mine has many more options, and Microphone, Wave In, and CD Player are all checked.

I had a similar problem. I solved it by not using the microphone for about a month or two, and then, voila, it works like new.

No idea of a solution... but... 60 dollars for a headset? Geez, I paid 9 bucks for mine at Staples and it works like a charm.

File type registrations . . . your driver is routing the output to WAV, which is being forced on WinAMP. WinAMP restores it's file settings everytime you run it, so even if your mic's software changed the settings, winamp changed them back.

That's my guess, fixing it . . . well, that's a whole other ball of wax.

If it is WinAMP (mentioned above by Cucumba) 'creating' the problem:

In WinAMP there is an option to turn that 'off' (the re-register all the file types at start up from WinAMP), or just turn only the WAV file type 'off'

(WinAMP 5.03a used)
WinAMP > WinAMP preferences > General Preferences > File Types.

You will see a list of file types called 'Associated File Types' next to the actual list, there are some options

- 'Restore File Association at Winamp start-up' you could turn that off.
OR
- In the list itself search for 'WAV' (from down-up it's the 9th) de-select it.

Then change your mic settings. and next time you start up WinAMP it won't 'reset' the settings.

Maybe that fixed it, but not sure. It could easily be something else bugging your mic.

The weird thing is my old mic works fine, but my headset plugs in to a USB port unlike my old mic.

moved to Help, since you're having a problem that you need fixing that would be the best forum for it.

*EDIT*, moved back to off-topic because it was a valid thread for the section, my misjudgement.

if its not working on teamspeak, you have to get the admin to grant you voice, then everyone should be able to hear what you are saying, it has happened to me, jsut connect to the server in teamspeak and ask (via typing) for voice grant ^_^ hope that helped
