As far as I've seen, the trial programs like this are usually an amalgamation of every idea they can come up with thrown onto one cd.

Hopefully it'll be far less bull****ty on release.

Well apparently there's a button you can press that will do a full system reformat without DVD's or anything, which is pretty awesome. Have to give credit where credit is due.

Double post, but the attitude of the guy at microsoft really pissed me off in this article.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-57389965-64/turning-30-microsoft-mouse-meets-makers-new-interface/

From the Article, describing the type of person who will complain about desktops becoming touch screens:

"'Oh, I'm never going to sit here and hold my arm straight out,'" he said. But people will adjust. "[So] bring the PC to you...tilt it down, build new furniture that allows new capabilities. All of this creativity is going to come because the PC you're using is changing the kind of work style and the way you can interact with a PC. So, it's a fascinating stage in the evolution, where all of sudden this direct manipulation becomes a critical part."

I do think that W8 is trying to make good use of space and be efficient but the ideas are not implemented as well as they should be therefore making it a stepping stone more than anything. I also think that that stupid MS Rep on how touch screens will predominate even the PC market soon is terribly wrong. IMO touch screen technology is **** for anything bigger than an Ipad and Touch Screen is just a phase until Gestures will be implemented like on the Kinect. Lets face it, the future will look like Minority Report (if anybody here hasn't seen this movie they really need to) and not like some Apple wet dream. Plus...having a touch screen PC and bringing 24"+ screens to your face so you can touch them will render everybody's eyesight into mush guaranteed.

How does anything you just said make sense? It's obvious they've decided to scrap their old efficient style for a new, trendy style that no one will like except the morons who never understood Windows in the first place.

I don't understand what you don't understand in my post? Evidently W8 is trying to cramp as much info into every screen as possible so that you don't have to open or cycle through dozens of programs to extract info, increasing efficiency of screen space and time, hence the Metro thing where you can see Mails, FB and a bunch of other crap in the same space a-la Xbox Live. I would compare the Windows 8 experience with a bad console port game to a PC as it is obviously ment for Touch Screens but they are trying to push it to full fledged PCs hence why I said Windows 8 is just a stepping stone towards a better future Windows which will hopefully employ what I think is the future and that is Gestures through a Kinect-like system because you can not use anything bigger than an IPad as a touch screen as it will very likely destroy your eyesight.

Windows 8 won't play DVD's unless you buy a separate Media Center Pack offered by Microsoft. May or may not be true, but given what I've seen of Windows 8, it wouldn't surprise me if it was true.

I'm still using it on my laptop and I've gotten used to it by now, but it's still terrible.
WMC is different from WMP, it may still play DVDs, but the nice program with Surround Sound and all the software for watching TV and whatnot is included in that package. I personally use VLC player more often than not, so this is a non-issue for me.

Oh wow. This one really bothers me. Free software development is dead on Windows 8, at least with Microsoft's Visual Studio 2011.

http://arstechnica.com/information-...op-software-development-is-dead-on-windows-8/

I really do not understand this. Free development tools are a great boon to any ecosystem. I think one of the reasons windows became as popular as it is is because there were few obstacles in the path of learning how to develop software for it. Hell, you could even pirate windows and still make software for the platform. The only reason they're doing this is to get more metro-style apps out there, and it strikes me as an extremely short sighted decision.

I'm currently learning how to program, and having Visual Studio 2010 be there for free for someone like me who is a hobbyist has been a great thing. I sincerely hope that Windows 8 fails, and fails hard.
