Actually i think a good RPG needs all of those qualities for a good one.I still play Skies of Arcadia sometimes for the Dreamcast just for the Sky Ship battles. Oh man Dugeons and Dragons. I used to know a guy that played that with like 5 other people and he was the guy that directed stuff. He was like now imagine we enter the forest and i was like okay time to leave but whatever floats your boat.

Neverwinter Nights has potential, but nothing can truly hope to match up with a good pen and paper role playing session with some good friends, soft drinks, chips, and maybe a computer in the back for when people get bored of listening to the one guy who always draws out everything he does and tries to get all super-detailed and test everything for 20 minutes to everyone else's shagrin (me ^_^).

I voted sadness, because I personally can't think of anything more satisfying than seeing a major character sweat and bleed to save the world only to end up dead, or to have failed, or to see his loved one "sent to the next dimension" (Yes DBZ plug-in) by the arch-villain. Something about that extreme level of sadness and misfortune just makes the game that much more worth playing... for the sake of revenge. You just want to see your character reach out and grab that little spark of happiness that can only come from destroying the thing that took his life out from under him...

Anybody who has played Final Fantasy 6 (III) should remember how insanely depressing that game was, and at the same time, how ultimately kick ass the story line was. Everybody had something violently taken from them and they were all so lost in despair before they teamed up in a last ditch attempt to reclaim their planet, particularly Cyan. That's the way I like it.

People that have never played pen and paper RPG's have no idea how sitting in a room with a number of other people and listening to someone talk about what you are doing in your imaginations can be any fun. Well it is, trust me, I have converted many a people that once thought that it was a stupid idea to avid pen and paper RPGer’s.

Think of it this way, imagine yourself as say Gandolf from The Lord of the Rings and you have all that he can do at your disposal and you can do for the post part anything that you want to. That is how pen and paper RPG's are they let you act as the character you are playing, weather he/she is good/evil a bounty hunter, wizard, rogue, jedi, paladin you name it and you can play it. It is really hard to explain until you play for yourself and see what me, Cuc, Sonic, and many others are talking about.

Oh I remember Sonic, I remember...

I remember Terra on the bride of the airship with the last piece of her Esper side leaving that world forever.

NWN is a great game, the problem is the Official campaign BW made is junk, you have to find a good online server.
If you want good RP, I suggest ALFA (alandfaraway.net)
Good stuff, heavy RP though.

Romance, long as its got a storyline with it

and no, im not talking about sex, im talking about Romance, the reason I choose it is that the most powerfull emotion is love, thus Romance makes an rpg great.

Go on, all laugh at me and see if I care :S
