What is the best ever Metal band?

There's WAAAAAAY too many good ones to choose from. Early metallica rocked, but the later stuff was mostly bad. Though here's a few you might not have heard of (and oddly enough they have a similar name): Dragon hammer, and hammerfall.

As for nirvana, I like them, but they are ABSOLUTELY NOT metal. More than anything I'd classify them as punk.

i've always had 4 metal favourites: megadeth, metallica, iron maiden, guns n' roses

apart from those, i guess sabbath, fear factory (hard rock, not metal), anthrax (is okish), marilyn manson (is actually new age metal), ozzy, etc etc.... i'm not listing my rock fav's coz this is a thread on metal... i'm particular about my genres.
