My postcount dropped overnight, it was 760.

The current post count you have is your real post count. I've been told that back in the days the off-topic section increased your post-count per post. Seeing that no longer applies as the off-topic section has been changed, the postcount rebuild takes that into account as well. Possible that might be the cause?
