my persoanl favorite is the free edition of AVG Virus Protector. Its very good. It alerts you when a virus is found in the area on your computer you are currently on, there is a virus scan and removal/healing process, and you can always check new files for viruses before opening them onto your computer. Its not as powerful as norton, but its damn god for something free. just search for AVG on yahoo or something and download the free version.

Edit - holy crap the 3 of us posted the same thing at the same time. SHUPER-SHWEET!

I used AVG and the Windows firewall, but neither blocked everything, then I lost them and got Norton Internet Security 2004 which I strongly reccomend. If you don't have a firewall these days then I wouldn't want to be you.

Also, get Adaware 6.0 for spy, ad and malware.

I'd use Ad-aware in conjunction with Spybot S&D and Spyware Blaster.

Trend micro is great for doing scans, but it only offers scans, not constant protection

I use AVG in conjunction with adaware for spyware and i do pretty well

Yeah, but he asked for checkers, and removers, well trend micro checks =P And it removes some stuff. so i guess it's good.

Although Norton Anti-virus is expensive it is a very very good anti virus system. I have it. It works good :D

My computer is completely virus free, has been working beautifully. Way better then my last computer. But beware, norton does take up a sufficient amount of cpu usage, so if you are going to play a game, disable it, or something- that's if you get it of course.

Thats exactly what I use. I also use Macafee but you have to pay for that so don't worry about that one
