right it says i have an older version of esf so i check internet for udates and it says i have an up to date version yet it keeps saying it

Don't use the autoupdater, it doesn't work. You have to download updates for HL or CS manually.

Indeed it does. Unless you have HL the nyou have to get the Half-life patches. Instead of using the autodownloader, find the sites and download them from there.
