I think it has something to do with being thankful with what you have.. And Indians/Native Americans.. I'm sure they're there too.

you have GOT to be kiddin me?

oh well.....

Thanksgiving happens of the 4th thursday of November. It is a day to celebrate how to Pilgrims and the Indians had a feast, after the Indians helped the Pilgrims to grow food and so on....since they didnt know jack SH|T about anything when they got there

(not part of Thanksgiving....just some history :D)

Eventually.....(about.....25 years AFTER! lol) the english settlers killed the indians....and took there land. Even though we shoulda been thankful for everything they did...the ENGLISH *******S made us AMERICANS LOOK BAD! ;( those GOMERS!

we had a bunch a treaties and things....but we ended up breakin them, and giving little reserves to them...and giving them the right to make casinos :S

oh well....sry bout driftin off :D

...

You can't blame the whole Native American thing on the English.. I mean there were loads of different people there, it wasn't just the English who took Native American land..

no...not presents...

its more of a time to be with your family...and to have big dinner (traditionally a TURKEY dinner...with Cranberry sauce...and so on) its more of a time to reflect on your life, your family, and your loved ones in general. (damn.....that was DEEP! :D)

well...you do get a present: the happiness of having a loving family that cares about you....(well...hopefully you have one :\ )

Thanksgiving is the official begining of the holiday shopping season. Originally, the real Thanksgiving was held about a week or two before what it is now, but was moved by the US Govt. to a date that would maxamize profits for business. They did this because, by studies, people generally started their Christmas shopping after Thanksgiving, but Thanksgiving was to early before and everyone got their stuff before the "demand" was created. High demand = high profits. When there is a huge demand, stores can charge more and still have people buy it. They say theres a 50% off Christmas sale!!! Its on things that people don't generally buy up, unlike the latest Pokemon or some stuff like that. Remember Tickle Me Elmo? Remember it being on sale? I dont. If anything it was way way above suggested retail, and they still sold out.

Well, to make a long story short, its all about money now, unfortunately... Cram an excess of shopping into a shorter ammount of time, and you have a genuine supply and demand problem! Charge More! Still sell the same!

Sorry to sound cynical, but if you want to look any of that up, you will find that the original date was moved, and it was for that reason.

I don't give a flying phoopty-whoopty about the symbolism of Thanksgiving. I just want to cram as much turkey down my throat as I can. :laff:
