Steam not working???

ok i downloaded steam but i havent got Half Life yet. when i try to load up steam, it would NOT let me load steam at all and a error message pops up and say "Could not load steam (ERROR) steam.dll"

what the heck???? any suggestions?? does steam need hl to run?? i dont think so...but anything would help. thanks!!

No, Steam does not need HL to run. In fact, you need Steam in order to run HL, or most other Valve products like Half Life 2, Counter Strike, etc.

Try reinstalling Steam and see if that helps.

i did tried to re-install but it still showed the same thing, i even restarted the computer....how about another download website? you know any where they will let you dl steam??
