The kings of heavy metal return?

Yesterday Metallica's 10th album, St. Anger was "released". It was suppose to come out the 10th...then it was moved to the 5th. But I bought it at best buy on the 4th. So whatever.

Either way, the album was only $9.99 and comes with a DVD of the band playing the whole album live.

I think if you love heavy guitar riffs this album is awesome. Every song just pounds the name St. Anger into your head. I am a huge Metallica fan and my two disappointments with this album are; There are pretty much no solos in any song at all...

And secondly, the lyrics are way below James Hetfields standards. I heard this is because Bob Rock, their producer since the black album, made James write the lyrics minutes before they recorded the songs. Which is dumb...

But to conclude, Metallica's new album is extremely heavy, but lacks the essentials that make it uniquely Metallica. But since I love them so much I will keep listening.

Please post your thoughts about the album.

That was longer than I thought it would be...thank you to anyone that made it this far.

I am a hardcore Metallica fan as well, and have been following them since the days of Cliff Burton, to post S&M.

I haven't heard a single track from St. Anger yet, and hearing that there will be almost no solos, is a dissappointment. But nevertheless, I will still go out and buy it coz it's still Metallica.

I'll give my opinion on it after I've heard the album, can't wait.

Although I think there is hardly any metal group (except Megadeth) which hasn't changed it's style of playing rock/metal because of changing times.

I heard it was really Nu-Metal like, or more so Metallica is turning nu-metal, and this worries me, I hate nu-metal.

Yeh, the cd does sound very nu-metalish. But if Metallica wants to take their music in that direction, who am I to tell them they shouldn't? I will just be there, embracing it like I always have.

so bob rock was the cause of metallica's downfall... DAMN HIM. well anyways, i think metallica's old stuff from black and older were the best the newer ones just sucked imo, besides fuel, i liked that one.

Yeh. I'm sure Metallica will be devastated to hear they "have gone down hill" because you only liked one song. :p

If you compare the new album to the old ones then perhaps down hill may be an appropriate term. But I see it as a new direction.

Yup not all the songs are that great, but we shouldn't start thinking that way yet... they've just chosen another path as far as metal in this day and age is concerned. I was dissappointed with the number of solo's though, hardly any.

But whatever it might be, long live metallica!

I too, think of it as a different direction rather than a lower level of performance.

But I do miss those solos...

Hey, solos is a palindrome

When a band has such a talented lead guitarist such as Kirk Hammet it should be a crime not to have solos in your songs.

Just seems like a waste of a good resource.

Amen, I have yet to hear it, but I'm a fan of Rob Truillo, a fan of the mighty Met, and I will give this one a chance . . . even though I prefer, by far, the days of Burton past.

Right on the dot... the only other band with good solos even these days (I mean proper metal, not nu-metal) is Iron Maiden.
