I'm not really a fan of watching sports. I get bored and tend to walk out, but a few of the guys were all about it. Saw Germany vs. Serbia. Decided to stick around for US vs. Slovenia. Did pretty ****tily the first half, but I wasn't exactly invested in the game in the first place, so I didn't mind. And then we scored a goal. And then another. And then another.

AND THEN THE LAST ONE DIDNT COUNT EVEN THOUGH THE DUDE WAS CLEARLY BEING DRAGGED BY THE OTHER DUDE WTF OH GAWD

****ty, ****ty call. But yeah, I think I enjoy football now.

Fellow Americans, do you enjoy football? Have you actually ever watched a game?

World, why aren't you making football more accessible to little 'ol America?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand go.

I'm pretty sure it's unpopular because it doesn't feature commercial breaks every 15 minutes.

Might also be because I've only ever seen football on spanish-speaking stations while channel surfing.

Americans don't have the attention span to watch a 45 minute half, without breaks. I guess if more breaks were added though, it might lift off.

Commercials are the reason for short attention spans. Also, 48 grunts managed to watch two games without any sort of issue. Amazing, I know.

I can see where this thread is going, and it isn't going to be pretty.

I live in Sweden and there is a bunch of hype for the World Cup..It was a bad start tho considering the matches were goal less and then a few good & favorable teams lost. But overall it's getting more enjoying. There is a negative side to this World Cup and that is the vuvuzela noise in South Africa (those are the blowhorns that every kid in South Africa grew up with). There has been quite a few headlines featuring the dB of those and how doctors suggest using earplugs if you don't want to lose your hearing. The ball is badly made and it has been seen that it affects the freekick so it goes way above the goal, that shouldn't happen with highquality players that have good freekicking skills.

And I can say, that your damn commercials in the US.....SUCK! Big time, I can't understand that you put up with that ****?! Well I mean the commercials are good..but you have them so often and for so long! Me and my bro were watching a ripped episode of the Lost seasone finale and oh my god...30 minutes into the episode we had been watching for more than an hour because of the damn commercials! I can't believe you have gotten used to that and keep up with it. Just a european opinion from me I guess :D

Way to stereotype and insult an entire group of people.

I've never really been interested in watching sports. I just don't see the appeal. I've tried watching (american) football, couldn't get interested. I've been to baseball games, they were boring. I've watched hockey and soccer games with my brother, equally as boring. I think that at the end of the day I simply don't care.

This thread stopped having meaning when AN AMERICAN CALLED 'SOCCER' IT'S REAL NAME. YES IT MAKES MORE SENSE TO CALL THAT 'FOOT BALL' AS OPPOSED TO HOW WE CALL AMERICAN FOOT BALL 'FOOT BALL' BUT GODDAMN IT IT'S THE PRINCIPLE IT IS!

I get that it's a big deal, but it also takes a lot for me to want to watch a Sport. I hate baseball, don't care about hockey or basketball. All I watch in American football.

I honestly think there is ZERO interest from America in football.
All the people who are watching probably had accident firearm discharge, and are sitting dead in their chair. The TV just happens to be a on football channel.

Actually, one of the major sports next works (ESPN) is showing a lot of World Cup stuff... and milking Landon Donovan (US Captain) as our David Beckham.

And, America has a professional league as well... http://www.mlsnet.com/

Since baseball = steroids and football = strip club fights... it's basically basketball and soccer that's got all the media hype these days.

Simply put, Americans commercialise their sports too much. It's more of a commodity in America than it is a sport; proffessional sport is almost a form of show-business in America. Cheerleaders, mascots etc. With football, aside from the wages and the occasional gossip and WAG drama, it still remains a sport (until people like the Glazer family started buying out teams and running them into debt). That's one reason football isn't popular in America.
Secondly, no offense, Americans, but anything that you guys aren't that great at, you generally turn a blind eye to it. It's only with the recent success of the USA in the confederation's cup last summer that Americans started becoming interested in football, and with high-profile (but crap) players like Beckham moving to the USA to retire after their careers in Europe, it began to pick up momentum.
This is my reasoning as to why football isn't popular in the states.

I like watching sports in general. Not all of course.
I enjoy watching football, hockey, basketball, tennis and some other.

Actually USA has a great soccer team, one of the best if you let me explain.
They made it to the confederations cup final with brasil, which is a "Pre world cup" in the hosting country, too bad they lost it, or FOR SURE it would have had some reputation over there.
If you ask me, I think they can beat some of the major soccer power nowadays. Starting with Fail.. I mean, FRANCE.
