i've noticed theres a lot of coding/bug threads concerning sky boxes. the replies to these are usually "its not really fixable", but they are if you know a few things about mapping.
if you place a box with the 'clip' texture on the inside layer of the sky box, followed by a thicker box tied to trigger push(pushing away from the sky) inside of that, you've solved all your problems(not being able to see your map, or beams blowing up on you because you are flying too high).
