Now, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this here, but I've come across a video of an "extreme" wrestling federation, CZW (Combat Zone Wrestling), and I'd like your guys' opinion on it:

Is this really what we're succumbing to? Are we really devolving back to the state of mind where mindless violence is one of the highest forms of entertainment? This is ******* worse than the gladiator fights of Ancient Rome, only thing different is these guys don't fight to the death, which I'm sure they would if it wasn't illegal, though I'm sure there has been more than one case of one of them accidentally dying in the ring.

Now, I don't like wrestling, but WWE, WCW, or whatever it's called now, I can understand. It's entertainment, and no one gets actually hurt. But this? Really? Are people actually entertained by this?

Again, if I wasn't allowed to post this because of its graphic nature, I'll gladly bear the consequences of my infraction, but I really think people should see this. This no ******* joke, this is real, honest-to-God violence being marketed.

Overpopulation is a problem. Let's bring back the gladiators.

Correct. This is the only alternative.

Basically anything that brings us one step closer to the Roman Empire is something Zeo will support. Also, I imagine he'd make for a fearsome gladiator. E-tool in one hand, tomahawk in the other.

And there's really no other solution save for this barbarism?
Even rats start mindlessly killing each other when they reach overpopulation.

So we have 2 choices.

1.) Do as nature does and be as you would call it barbaric.

2.) Discover a way to move large numbers of the population elsewhere. Meaning space colonies or colonization of other planets.

For the record, we're not overpopulated. If we wanted to feed, clothe and house the multitudes, we could. It just isn't profitable enough to warrant the expenditures.

Man, I'd be the first one in that line.

Sources? Population control using wealth differentials has been the main priority of the World Bank since before its inception.

A collection of factoids and resources with a bibliography:
http://www.globalissues.org/article/26/poverty-facts-and-stats

Although I would have to say we are overpopulated because said resources are not designated for our species alone, and these resources are usually realised to be best left where they were because they are part of a natural process that had evolved over timescales that transcend the comfortability of mere monkeys in shoes.

For a species that has ironically documented a comprehensive understanding of natural selection, biology and ecology, we choose to embrace the unnatural and dysfunctional instead. The struggle of mortality (eg mortal combat) is what has driven such harmonic diversity on this planet - that is until our reign of 'intelligence' began trying to run the show. /imo

A collection of sources linking to archives of UN, UNICEF, and World Bank reports on Human Development too intimidating to actually take time and cross reference is it? That, or your browser has just blown its page scrolling functions...

Except it isn't what I asked for, at all, what so ever. It's just a collection to links on statistics. No, see, I want a source or lots of sources that give clear evidence that we could easily feed, clothe, and house 6 billion people. Naturally cars and the like would also come into this equation... Computers, lighting, heating...

Well, if 10% of the population didn't hold 90% of its wealth (exaggerating probably, but that's about it) perhaps we actually could.

Now, overpopulation is a problem, but isn't it simply easier for people that have ten, fifteen kids, to instead have two or three? That's one solution. Most advanced countries of Europe have overall negative population growth, meaning that more die than are born, simply because they have one to three kids on average.

But again, that requires a world-wide solidarity. And that's no good, it's always easier to kill each other, right? Forgive me for not seeing that.

That's popular belief, and statistics you took out of the air. It's not necessarily true at all, which is why I'm asking for sources.

And yes, mankind has always been better at killing each other than at solidarity.

My point was that, for example, one oil tycoon can be wealthier than a thousand people in Africa. That football players are worth millions of dollars while people around the world have nothing to eat.

My point was that wealth is very unequally distributed, and if you can't see that, if you need sources for that, then you really are blind. That's one of the main fallacies of capitalism. Someone doesn't even have a loaf of bread, while others have luxurious homes on each continent.

"Naturally" everyone need cars and computers to survive.
