I find Asus to be about average when it comes to prices. They're warranties and customer service (from what I have experienced) is nice.

If I were you, I'd first find a decently priced laptop you like, and see if there are any websites or stores that have it for a lower price.

Personally I like the Sony Vaio I found. It's a pretty nice price for it's specs, and, well, it's Sony, so you should expect a really well put together laptop.
