Saw a DBZ movie, got some questions

Hey, I just managed to see the dub of the DBZ movie "World's Strongest Fighter" (vs. Dr. Willow, the brain guy). I got 3 questions now, and I was hoping someone could answer them:

1. When a possesed Piccolo attacked everyone, Krillin freaked and hit the ground. Is there some reason Krillin's especially afraid of Piccolo early in the DBZ series? Did Piccolo kick the #$@! outta Krillin, or something?

2. What's the deal with the power pole (Goku's exteding pole). Where'd it come from, what's it do, what happened to it (is it around and just never used, or was it destroyed)?

3. When doing a Spirit Bomb, Goku draws energy from all over the planet Earth (it seems). So, if Goku was on another planet, let's take Namek for example, could he still do a Spirit Bomb? And if he could, would he be drawing Namek's power or the Earth's power? Would this affect the power? And could he do a spirit bomb in space, drawing power from Earth/the closest planet?

If anyone has answers, I'd like em.

Goku's pole was givin to him by his grandfather Gohan. Its the legendary Nyi Boi [sp]. It extends and does everything. Its magical. You mostly see the nyi boi in DB

I dont see why not it wouldn't work on Namek? I'm sure its a planet so it should work.

Ah, so it's just Krillin being Krillin, no tramatic event then. But:

-Why did they just stop using the pole? Did it become irrelevant? Was it just quitely phased out and never mentioned?

-Whenever Goku does a Genki Dama he talks about drawing power from Earth. So is his GD always drawing power from Earth, or will it just take whatever sources of like in a certain radius? Could he GD in space?

Okay, about the pole, some major backstory:

Dragonball was loosely based off of the chinsese legend Journey to the West.

In that story, Sun Wukong the Monkey King had a pole. he could change its length and width.
Goku is directly based off of Sun Wukong. He was given a similar pole..but he can just change the length.
He uses it throughout most of DB and small parts of DBZ, like that movie.
IT was pretty much phased out...he just stopped needing it after he trained with king kai.

The genki dama's draw power from life in general. It doesn't matter the planet......he formed one on planet namek when he fought furiza.

Basically..as long as there's life to draw from, one can be made.

Goku can form the SB anyplace that has life on it as stated earlier. If you watch the one he forms against Frieza, you'll see Namek doesn't have enough life to make the SB the size he needs, so he draws it from the nearby planet and stars.

goku DOES make a spirit bomb at namek.. he uses not only the power of namek but also the power from the stars around it and that made a huge bomb!!!
(1 or 2 eps. before he went ssj)
