lol...Kasey said:I'd rather have a new name than the same old one with numbers in it. Wii is better than GameCube3 or GameCube360. Nintendo hardly ever uses the same name for a console, except for Super Nintendo but they still don't use numbers like everybody else.
As usual, im having alot of trouble understanding your views on Nintendo. I remember you saying, that you don't hate Nintendo-- whereas you just hate how they always seem to put their worst foot forward. But then, there's other times where you just hate them. But moving away from that, what i don't understand is how did you manage to come to the delusion that Nintendo naming the console " Wii " will suddenly going to make everyone run out and buy it? Im sure you noticed the fan reaction have been mostly negative, and some people have gone out on a limb to even claim that they aren't going to buy it because of the name-- so where does the trick come into play again ?SaiyanPrideXIX said:The others want your support; Nintendo just wants your phat amellican loot. End of story.
It was a pathetic publicity stunt designed to generate a buzz and that's what it did. Does that make it any less a cheap and twadry trick, or any less a stupid name with no logical or demographic point to it? Of course not. It is just a stupid ****ed up word that they invented to stir the pot.
Their machines in modern times have always been the cheapest. And now they don't even want to pay for promotions; they give it a stupid name and use the fanbase as walking commercials. Microsoft and Sony don't NEED your sale. That is why I prefer them over Nintendo--I don't think they are better. I think that Nintendo sucks and is just out to trick you all into dropping another ****load of money into the same old pile of gimmicky crap. The other companies don't trick me; they make something, if I think it's cool I can buy it, if not then hey, someone else will, no big deal. Nintendo desperate hunts every last dollar in your wallet; their balls are to the wall and this is just another cheap trick they pulled out of the hat to reel you all in.
All too easy, if you ask me.You keep responding trying to bring the flame down on people not siding with Nintendo here. And you already put some console-warrish words in my mouth once before in this thread. I know it skirts the line, so do you. Incriminating the other ones at the end of the day does not change what Nintendo is doing--they are playing you for fools.
Nintendo is using cheap tricks and publicity stunts to secure your dollars. The other ones don't have to. At the end of the day, that's the bottom line. They advertise their products; they don't try to connive you into spreading mass publicity, they don't need any super secret special surprises to make people give a crap about their products, and most of all, none of the other companies has ever forcibly re-released the same game dozens of times while bending over and mercilessly raping your wallet. Again. And Again. And again.
You can source it to familiarity but even that is a crock; Mario, Samus and Link are great, but they are no longer alone in the world. Solid Snake, Master Chief, Sonic & Shadow, Leon Kennedy, Crash Bandicoot, Sly Cooper, DMC's Dante...I mean...the list goes on and on and on.
You cannot possibly have any way to deny to yourself that this name thing was anything more than a marketing stunt to generate a buzz. Tell yourself anything otherwise and you're just in denial.
And even ignoring all the other points made...it is still a STUPID NAME.
Everything you say implies something, i've merely taken what you said and put it in a new context. That's not putting words in your mouth. Congrats on that one.SaiyanPrideXIX said:You keep responding trying to bring the flame down on people not siding with Nintendo here. thats like 60% son.
Now that sounded much more professional- except I don't see how you can bash the console gaming wise yet without seeing anything or even playing it. The name? I can understand you hating it, I hate it too, which is why I'm going to continute calling it "The Revolution" but so far from what I have heard, I like it. I still don't see how you can say "Nintendo is retarded because of their name, and because of the stupid name they're going to make a stupid console" but you don't know that. Not for sure anyway, not 100%. Although I have a feeling you'll hate it solely because it's Nintendo =/SaiyanPrideXIX said:I know I come off as a jerk about this subject, I don't want anybody to think I feel otherwise. But Soul Punisher, I don't necessarily want to see them succeed so much as I want to see them start caring about what's happening to us. Start making an effort. Start to really strive to do their fanbase right.
Renaming the console at the eleventh hour is just a way to get everybody talking about it--which this thread proves a thousand fold. Nobody's talking about any of the other consoles. But giving this one a weird name has not only generated a marked controversy around what is otherwise a mundane part of a machine's early marketing life. We know what we're in for with the PS3 and 360; but now we have this weird thing called the 'Wii.' Everyone's talking about it. Everyone's going to be dying to see whether it is cool enough to supercede its stupid name. Everyone's going to want to see what Nin's next stupid little secret is going to be. At the end of the day they are all cheap tricks, the name being the cheapest. But it worked. Here we sit, speaking not a word about the others, but yet we have this 6 page thread at the top of the forum dedicated to...to what? The name of this machine. Not even the machine. The frigging NAME of it.
I know it seems like I care a lot about marketing, more than the average person. But...I have been trained in marketing and advertising. I know how Nintendo thinks of you/us! They are playing you for fools and they are selling you refurbished gamecubes with new drives and recycled motherboards. I say they are after your money because they ARE; it is only cheaper because they will be hugely less expensive to manufacture by recycling all the thousands of unvended gamecubes. It has nothing to do with giving a damn about you and me, or the dent in our wallets--they did this because A.) it benefits them to do it this way because it severely lowers their costs, and B.) because it is more likely to sell someone on the fence. THAT is why the cost is lower; in the end the intent is the same. They want you to buy it, buy buy buy. There will be a million add-ons for that lame controller, I promise. And a gun-style controller, too. And a DS hookup, and secret unlockables that require you to own at least 500 dollars worth of Nintendo merch just to even attempt to open.
I want them to start giving a crap about us, give us what we want. They just don't ever do that. Ever. And add to that the fact we are the pawns in the most inconsiderate and self-servient marketing ploy in the history of video games, being strung along by their smoke and mirrors double talk, and it just...well it really chafes my ass, to be straight about it. Maybe you all don't have hangups about being the dupes of Nintendo's grand scheme in this thing, but I do. And that's why I come off the way I do. In the end, Punisher, I'm on your side--I respect your opinions, even when they aren't the same as mine. But it doesn't change my opinion of the situation, either.
It's people like Phoenix that turn these into flame wars. With these supposedly witty responses intended to shut the people opposite him up. Like as if it's a contest to disprove or dismantle another person's point of view. I'm not trying to change all of the Nintendo fans minds, I'm just calling it like I see it. So if you don't have a real point of view and only want to cut mine down because you don't like how I present it, you might as well give it up. That's not what it's all about anyway, man. Not at all. So save the snide little jabs for the playground.
Really, Soul is a shining example of how people should handle their differences on console war topics. If everyone behaved that way, we wouldn't have the rule disallowing console vs. console topics. Most of us would do well to learn from it--there are ways to disagree without having to attack.
Even at that, I have to continue my point, though. Any person, Nintendo fanboy or not, who thinks Nintendo has done anything *for you, the fan* in the last 5-10 years is in complete and utter denial. They don't care about us, at all. I mean...doesn't that piss you guys off, even a little?
Erm, yes, the Revolution is a console...Kasey said:1. Nintendo Revolution isn't a console
True, but i've never heard someone say "Let's play the Genesis" I always related "Sega" to the Genesis. But you're right. Touche.SailorAlea said:Nobody I've ever known has asked if I wanted to go play the "Sony" or "Microsoft." No the name of the console is Wii so Revolution isn't really a console it's just used to say that the Wii will be a revolution for Nintendo. That'd be like calling my PS2 "Bob" and saying "Bob" is a console.Fire Phoenix said:Erm, yes, the Revolution is a console...
If the previous name for the PS2 was "Bob" then yes "Bob" is a console. The revolution is wii, wii is the revolutionKasey said:No the name of the console is Wii so Revolution isn't really a console it's just used to say that the Wii will be a revolution for Nintendo. Sega and Nintendo are gaming only companies. Microsoft and Sony sell other products. Microsoft sells computers and other stuff like that and Sony sells computers, CD players, TV's etc. While Sega and Nintendo make only video game products. If someone said "I'm going to go play my Sony." you wouldn't know what they meant because Sony makes other types of products.SailorAlea said:An important difference is that Nintendo used 'Nintendo' as the name of the console, too. How many people do you remember saying "Hey, let's go play the Nintendo Entertainment System!"? Or perhaps "Let's go play the NES!" Not many. They used 'Nintendo' as the name for the system, then amended it with "Super," then "64," and so on.
Nobody I've ever known has asked if I wanted to go play the "Sony" or "Microsoft." I heard people use the term 'Sega' a few times, but people usually used the word 'Genesis' (or Saturn, Dreamcast, etc)
I was just saying that Sony made other products. You could play a Sony computer. They made the Vaio or however you spell it.ZeroNightmare said:you could use your common sense and assume a video game
