x800 cards are very good, get one if you can. x800SE has 8 pixel pipelines and rivals the 9800Pro, x800Pro has 12 pixel pipelines and will outclass a 9800Pro/XT in every way. An x800XT has 16 pixel pipelines and will be atleast 2x faster. By faster I don't mean in fps because your card can be bottlenecked by something.

The x600 is a PCI Express enabled 9600XT, just get a 9800Pro if you want double the performance of x600 and cost around the same price.

x300* is the new 9100/9200. It's just PCI Express enabled and slightly higher clocked.

The x800 series are the fastest. Get one of those or a 9800Pro... or an nVidia card if you prefer nVidia.

All of which will suck in doom 3 and half life 2.

9600 XT is the very least you should have now adays.

I believe the lowest X800 card is 350 - 400 dollars, I know after JUST paying that much, I wouldn't want to sell it for 200 or even 300. If you even have 200 or 300 I highly suggest you buy a 9800 Pro.

Yes, try to sell your current video card, and try to pick up a 9800 pro.

I would personally call you mad if you buy a x800 because they are realy expensive atm if you would wait a month maybe two you might get a x800 for alot cheaper. But really a x800 is luxery you dont need one atm, i got a ati 9700 bought about 2 years ago and it still works fine for me with each game except doom 3 (but i dont got doom 3 original so thats why)

Yes, the x800 is very expensive but it's worth it. The x800Pro is probably 1.7x-2x+ faster than your 9700Pro and the x800XT is atleast 2.3x faster ;O.

Look its quite simple, if you want to waste your money on buying that card fine, who am i to say that you should not buy that card.

+ My 9700 works perfectly fine for every game so why the hell would i buy a new card when i still do not need it...cuz its faster??? come on that card here costs 400-500 euros thats like a new dell PC for crying out loud.

But im looking at price - quality, and for now since the x800 price is HUGE i would wait, till it becomes less expensive.

OR buy 9800 pro which will work fine for you more then a year. Since HL2 & Doom 3 are now the leading two games in graphics and they work perfectly with a 9800 pro.

EDIT: what Smith did forgot to mension is that a x800 needs a huge Power Supply. My friend had a 400 watt power supply, and suddenly had some crashes on his comp and it went slow, ATI recommended (by phoning them) to upgrade to a 450-500 watt power supply, which aint cheap eigther ill tell u.

Yea, it's a waste when you're getting 2x the speed of your last card -_-.

Good for you =). Some people like to enable Antialiasing and Anistropic Filtering on their games.

But im looking at price - quality, and for now since the x800 price is HUGE i would wait, till it becomes less expensive.
Well if you consider that you'd be able to enable everything including anti aliasing and anistropic filtering, it's still the better deal.

Yes, the 9800 pro will work pretty well with todays and some of tomorrows games =).

If you can use a 9800Pro, you can undoubtably use an x800Pro/XT. Infact, they both use LESS power in startup and 2d idle. Only the x800XT BARELY edges over the 9800Pro in full load. This is due to ATi moving the card to .13 process with low-k technology and GDDR3 memory, which both produce less heat and power requirements.

Obviously something was wrong with your friend's computer. Running on a crappy PSU isn't the same as running on a good one :/.

I can guarentee you won't find a used X800 for even 9800 Pro price, unless it is broken.

not sure. i have nothing for money at the time. Ill sell my All-in-wonder for almost the same price i bought it becuase i didnt use it that much at all and my geforce card i just got for cheap from a friend and he bought it brand new. so i should get a good amount of money for those two cards and i still want to sell my old 9200 PCI version for cheap. Maybe i will have enough for a decent card i hope.
