You might be capable of making that, but the Half-Life engine might not be capable of holding it up for you. HL has limitations on things like size, number of polies, etc. If you can figure out a way to pull it off, good on you. But, it may be that you're gonna hit a ceiling along the way.

Oh definitely. Alot of people design maps after real-world places. For example, the Counter-Strike map 747 is made after a real airport. If you build it, it will be there.

Oh you can pull that off. If Duke Nukem 64 can pull off a football stadium, then you can definitely do a soccer playing field.

IOS has soccer fields all the time. Putting the comentator in is also no biggie. Thats what models are for. And the comantary is a simple ambient_generic entity.

But i allways did wonder. Why is american football called football. I mean its played 99% using hands and not feet unlike soccer >.<

Than again i kinda call soccer football and american football ruggby XD

Not as difrent as one may think. The principles are the same. Only one has more rules than the other and one is played without protective gear.

But the principles are indeed allmost identical.

thx...
Hey, a new mapper to this part of the forums!

You should definately make a map based on this stadium though Grega and Sandstorm pretty much nailed it, the GoldSrc engine is only capable of so much. You can however make the map look more detailed with the usage of sprites and models, though it will be a lot of work.

Make sure the face count is within the 1,000 - 2,000 range otherwise the map will lag pretty bad in game though it's possible to stretch that limit depending on the amount of brushes, faces, etcetera, in your map.

Good luck.

Thats only half true.

I have a map with 2666 faces and 255 brushes. And it runs with an average of maximum 700 wpoly ;)

It all depends on how many faces you can actualy see ingame.

Basicly if you can only see a small amount of faces you can put a ****load of solids in there and it wont lag a bit ;)

But for open maps you should try to have a low facecount ^_^

That's true. I haven't mapped in a while so I forgot a number of things, I apologize.

Anyway, this will be a good map to play on. What you should do is make it so that both teams start outside of the arena, or at least somewhere out of sight of the opposing team.

The rooms should be easy to make, though making a manager might be difficult if you aren't good at modeling but you can ask someone on these forums to model him for you.

As for tutorials, I suggest these sites:

http://www.twhl.co.za/tutorialbrowse.php?tuttype=1
http://www.snarkpit.net/editing.php?page=tutorials&game=HL
http://articles.thewavelength.net/section/9/

I did have another site somewhere in my favorites that went over the "philosophical" aspect of mapping which was really informative, though I cannot find it.

a quite detailled and pretty stadium map for goldsrc isnt that hard to do though. reminds me of a VERY old map I made before IOS had its first release xD old map .. coolest thing was the dynamic scoreboard from 0-99 for each team :)

true but you cant have much vis blockers in a map type like that now can you? Imagine a huge wall right on the field to block vis xD

anyway, good luck with your map :)
