Helping isn't the issue, a while back people were posting false warning, shouting "CLOSED" etc . . .

That is spam, and certainly off the topic at hand, only moderators have permission to deviate from the topic of given thread.

I think there's a difinitive (sp?) line between acting like a mod, and being friendly. Telling someone not to double post, maybe they're new to the board? is a lot different than when a lot of people would go.

"I should close this but I'm not a mod"

or

"That's your first warning! j/k I'm not a mod, but don't do it again"

On the other hand, telling someone not to flame/spam/go off topic, isn't acting like a mod, it's more them trying to prevent a thread from being closed. I also think it's a matter of tone, which is hard to interpret on a message board, but just try to be nice about it, and don't sound like you're taking authority.

But whatever, as if my opinions matter.

Out.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions.... However sometimes it is best to say nothing at all...

BAD mystic Goku. For asking a silly question you have now recieved your first Sonic Boyster warning :warning:. Stop being silly!

Now I haven't gotten crap for doing that. If I was to say "You're going to get a warning if you keep that up." I would be playing the roll of a mod. It also has to do with the way you word your sentences. Mods are to the point, and if you are too "to the point" about what a mod might do to someone else, they'll think you are warning the person you are speaking too.

* SONIC this is one of those times where you should have just kept your mouth shut.... Let the Admins and mods deal with this answer!

Hey dude, it should not be viewed as BS, and you did answer your own question, it is their forum let them do their part, I can understand if someone is considered acting like a mod because they say "Hey change your sig the mods will think it is too big" But those are best taken care of pm's, therefore that kills 2 birds with one stone, and I can put myself in their shoes since I've made attempts to pay for my own forum and what not, leniency(sp?) is greatly shown on the forums since they allow people to return after they screw up, I try to show my appreciation and what not by TRYING( jepp in mind TRYING) to follow the tules since I know the feeling:]

the only reason he got apointed mod anyway is because of all the spammers during the month of the beta release, all the beta testers got apointed to mods to keep the spam down. but it just kind of stuck i guess..... hey can we turn this into a "how did u become a mod?" topic? this is already bringing back memories for me :p

Not all beta testers become moderators, not all moderators become beta testers.

There are three ways to become a moderator.

Get appointed by the Host
Get appointed by the Administrators
Get appointed by the Staff.

Most are appointed by the administrators, though Greg has been known to make many mods, and many mods supermods.

I was made a supermoderator and #esf channel master about a year ago. VT appointed me on the fly when I asked him to allow me to curb the insanity. Two months later I became the Admin of this forum. Cheeseman was appointed the same time. Chimpbot became an Admin a month later, again by VT. Deverz replaced chimpy by the hand of Greg. Megasaxon is Oktagone Staff, that is why he an administrator.

I selected all of the moderators except X, Nretep and Naz. Naz was suggested by the supermoderators, and X was appointed by Mastasurf because he put in almost two continuous days in Help. Nretep was made moderator by harSens and Masta, because he is knowlegeble in the ways of coding, and is in constant contact with harSens.

And since Cheeseman and I made Hibiki a moderator, I can tell you that he was not selected because of the beta release. He was selected because he knows the forum rules, and has been here for a long time.

I was selected by Cheese and Cuc. And no, I AM NOT a beta tester because I am a super moderator or vice-versa. And Hibiki was a mod a WHILE before the beta release. He, Hsu, myself, BrunO, Firefly, Greentaco, and most of the other older mods were promoted around the beta release to Super Moderators. Good times :)
