Opening the console

Ya, my friend just got halflife and d/l a bunch of other mods. He can't open he console ingame though. Anyone know why? i can't help him since it always worked for me but i played at his house and I can't open it so I got no idea. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx

at the end of his shortcut to the game, add a -console. That's the difference I'm betting. But as I answer this, I'm also going to go ahead and move it to Help.

He went to the halflife shortcut on his start menu and made a new shortcut and renamed it to halflife-console. yet again it didn't work. He still can't open the console. Did he have to rename the original shortcut or are there any other ways to do this??

add this to the config
bind "`" "toggleconsole"
bind "~" "toggleconsole"

and make sure you aren't just renaming the short cut. Right click it and go to properties. Then find a box called target and it should have something like this:
c:\sierra\half-life\hl.exe

change it to read:
c:\sierra\half-life\hl.exe -console

then do as Humpie says

Also make sure you have the game in there somewhere (for example ESF)

C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe -game esf -console

you don't need to do what Humpie said, It should automatically have those bindings just not have the console activated

its been know sometimes that the bindings dont get put in there sometimes
also make sure console is set to 1

Setting the binds in config.cfg should do it, I've seen many instances where people can't open their consoles, and doing that fixes it.
