Also saw this yesterday, they have better ocean in my opinion. You should watch the whole thing, its scary what they did with their engine. I loved Crysis 2 cuz of it.

old vs new tech is unfair

NOthing and besides that... it's DX11 with Compute shaders wich we can't use so we don't have the power to compute such FX. If we had, it would look like that but we don't

would that be possible that the waves getting stronger when you powering up above or in the water ?

it could if they moved to Cryengine 3, ask them to move to that engine if you want that water effect

They won't even move to HL2 why the **** would they even think about cryengine

umm.. Lets see.. We use the same sound format... I think thats about it.
map = new format
models = new format
FX = new format
hmm... other than the obvious bullet engine of course, I think not very much is kept, lol. If we could only change the main launch screen, that'll be perfect. Wait... I think we can? :)

Not a lot. The basic connection protocols and some really low tier core. Well and the GFX system in a way. The marvel of Open GL is that you can build on an existing version though extentions, even if you cant really update the Open GL version itself.

@DT we dont really use a new GFX engine, only new extentions of the older Open GL version thats persent in HL1. We are kinda limited because we cant update Open GL itself ^^

As for sound we updated to FmodX. HL1 itself can only play 22KHz WAV files, while our update allows for pretty much all the sound file types. (not yure about OGG though)

That's not a lot and I remember reading what you just said and that basically 15% (ish) of the total game is based on the original HL engine.

Well the problem there is....you can recode thoses menus. But then you have to recode every menu, and we don't wannt redo the serverbrowser and all that stuff...it would take quite long and you would have to wait even longer for ESF:F ;P
