Bleh, Naruto isn't that awesome. He's better than Sasuke/Sakura but TBH I can hardly stand Team 7, all the best characters are side characters. Lee, Neji, Gaara, Zabuza..
Oh come on, since Naruto went Sage, he went badass. Lee is annoying, Neji is boring, Gaara went soft and Zabuza is dead so he doesn't count anymore.

Yet each and every one of those encounters would have meant nothing without Naruto being there.

Lee was awesome. He always fails but tries his best to get back up and works hard, far harder than Naruto who has the main character shield around him constantly. Neji sure isn't boring. He was a total ******* with a really complicated past that convinced him all time was pre-determined and resulted in my favourite fight in the entire series, Nejji V Naruto, which is mostly them arguing about free will and determinism and working out Neji's personal issues, with a bit of brilliant fighting inbetween. Gaara is amazing because he was a massive depressive looser that thought everything was evil, and now works hard to turn himself around to be a good person and protect people. Zabuza was one of the most emotionally involved characters in the entire series and the arc fighting him is definitely the best arc in the anime.
I agree.

They all have so much more to them than Naruto. They're all so much more unique and interesting. Yeah, Naruto is badass I guess, but he's even more boring than ever now he's fixed most of his character flaws.
He is the Child of the Prophecy,The 9Tails Jinchiuuriki after all. He can't be a douche forever.

Well we all know that Naruto is a descendant of the Senju i.e Hashirama and I guess the ability to control beasts can sometimes come to one of his descendants. Thinking of Naruto's mother Kushina...but wasn't she from another village originally or is she born & raised in Konoha? (lazy to check on my own...)

In the last chapter/s it was said that she came to Konoha and joined the Ninja Academy at that time. :)

The land of Naruto? If I'm not mistaken whirlpool=naruto... I.e his symbol, but also has something to do with Ramen. And no wonder his ultimate is Rasengan which means Spiral something.

I believe it is Naruto=Fish Rolls used in soup/ramen(that has some kind of spiral). I remember Jiraya said he came up with the name when he was eating ramen. :)

Naruto is the name of bridge in Japan.

It is the name for steamed fish-paste cake, that is sliced and is used to decorate soup

also the name for the @ symbol.
According to my knowledge, Naruto is the name of a city and sea strait in Tokushima Prefecture. The city is famous for the tidal whirlpools to be observed in the strait.

The Naruto fishcake is named after the Naruto whirlpools because the fishcake has a design that resembles a whirlpool:

However, I have no idea whether the Naruto as in the city, strait, whirl pool and fish cake are in any way related to the TV show.
The origin of the word Naruto seems to be "naru seto", the roaring strait, which is also the name of place famous for frequent whirlpools near Osaka. The word Uzumaki made of "uzu"(swirl) and maki(roll).

It happened to be the one of ancient symbols from the Stone Age as well.It has been used frequently on pottery, clothing and drawings, and the historians think it was to ward off the evil spirits.

As for Anime, I think both food and uzumaki(whirlpool) are implied, but only the author knows of which he was inspired first.

Ohh and about Kushina, in the last chapter it is said that the Hidden Cloud wanted to capture her.

Nice digging around Tenzo! What does Kushina mean anyway? I remember Sasuke comes from the name Sarutobi Sasuke which is in Japanese history..it's wonderful how Kishimot uses history for his own story! Because of the we already new that the third Sharingan jutsu would be Susanoo!:D

Kishimoto bases the entire Naruto story on Japanse culture and history. Even the whole Bijuu's are from Japanese mythology.
