mIRC Connection Help

I just got mIRC and I can't connect to anything, I have a router with a built in firewall I am wondering if that is the problem. Any help given is appreciated

Ok go to Options then go to Connect. Change the IRC Network to GamesNet. Then change the option underneath it to random East or West, depending on where you live. Then click on Connect To IRC Server. When your done with all this type /join #esf into the status window. If you did all this and are still having trouble, then please AIM me at bigdog6879.

I am still having a problem it says my user name is invalid...and it sgould match my e-mail name, it does but for some reason it keeps giving me the same error. Anyone know what to do?

Make sure your username (not nickname, but AUTHSERV username) isn't one used by a gamesnet staff member and also doesn't contain any odd characters.
