That's one of the best ideas about melee attacks I've heard! It's a great idea, and like the others said: it would make the characters more individual.
Maybe they could make the melee menu like this: You press 2, get the rollout and there you can choose punch or kick. And then the secondary fire button is the special melee attack for punch or kick...
How about it?
I think that melee needs to be straightforward. You can add twists to it, like in Jedi Knight II. You have diff. attacks for which buttons you press when you attack, and you have 3 diff. lightsaber styles. I would definitely agree with implementing something like this.
