For some people its not a question of if your video card can handle it, but your operateing system and its memory.

ESF already rapes my Radeon 8600 card on my Win 98 machine. You brought up the point of buying a videocard..... Frist of all there is a 0% garuntee that the video card will even go to your slot (so many formats now-a-days). Even then you are always limited by the slowest item on your computer. (CPU, speed of memory)

I would perfer to keep esf's graphics minimal. I can turn up the settings on my better computer for fun, but I dont always have access to it. ESF is one of the few mods that really bogs down your system res.

You also forget those of us who have the money for a cheaper card like that but lack the neccesary mobo slots to pull it off. My computer for example ONLY supports PCI cards. That and a 933 mhtz processor running Win XP doesn't help other things run well either. So it's not just a GFX card problem. Some of us would literally have to shell out for a new computer to get anywhere. So it's not just an issue of where one's free cash is going, but the fact that it's not such a simple change for some.

5200 comes in a PCI form (and no, not PCI-express...)

Radeon 9200 (at least for me, I'm using All-In-Wonder Pro) does not support the nVidia CG-Toolkit fragment shaders everyone seems to love so much.

I'm afraid I have no idea what you speak of. I'm not a graphics person, I'm a coder...

Just love those lists... Anyway, it's $40 - $50USD (before S+H) to buy a FX5200 or RADEON 9200 these days... So there's not really any reason NOT to have one, because those cards are dirt cheap, and work much better than a GF2.
[Contradiction]

Well not to be rude or anything , then stop telling everyone what they can and cannot afford/have with there PC ... I live in England , My low FPS is the only way I'm able to play ESF online without getting raped due to wacked out lag , so i do not need 500% more GFX effects murdering my FPS so I can't play ESF anymore.

I bought a FX5200 and an FX5600 and neither were compatible with my motherboard. So I should shell out another $120 for a decent board just to play some hl1 mod.

If you still use a GF2, I commend you for your loyalty (or whatever other reason), but, a GF2 runs ESF like crap anyway, now doesn't it?
100fps (dropping to 70-80 during fast melee) with my GF2 on ESF-- sounds like crap to me. -_- Heh, it would probably even get 120 if I used that tweak that Hybrid used.

I'm not questioning anyone's monetary situation, but, if you have enough money to go to college, I'm sure you could shell out a few extra dollars to update your GPU. And if you shell out too much money on porn (not judging anyone, but I've seen that excuse)... Consider your expenditures that you're shelling out, to see a girl you'll probably never even touch getting sodomized by a goat.
Do you even know how much it costs a year to go to college these days? Mine is $15,000 a year-- and thats considered cheap compared to some colleges that charge up over $25,000. It's called financial aid. The government loans money to you and you pay them back in monthly payments after a grace period of 6-9 months after you finish college.

Obviously you are far from your college years to have considered this, but not even half the country's college students or their parents have enough money just "sitting around" to pay for college. I come from a family of 5 children, with me being the oldest. That means my parents would have to pay 5x what it costs me to go to college for 4-5 years each. I'm an engineering major at Ohio State. Its a five year program. Where would I get (lets do the math, 5x15,000) $75,000 from? Hell, most parents don't even make that kind of cash in a year. I know there are college students on this board, and I'm sure they all know the situation.

Oh, we should also consider off-campus living. Apartment, bills, *beer*, gas money, groceries. Why off-campus? Because upper classmen at OSU do not live in the dorms like the freshman and sophomores. Oh, and $300 in books each quarter. *This is really adding up*.

Even with xmas coming up, I can't ask for anything I want because there's too many things I need just to get by right now.

There i'm done. If cards are so cheap, go buy me one.

Wait til I get a job, then I'll buy you a hooker with a slong as big as your arm!! Heheh j/k

Anyway, 100FPS with a GF2? What settings do you use? Do you have the graphics turned down? Not gonna insult the card, but, the GF2 doesn't seem that strong...

No, not really, they're not so great... I mean, yeah, the radiosity is awesome, especially with the water... But, when you think about it... In Dragon Ball Z, they didn't even have transparent water (like ESF has). Their water was as opaque as it gets.
Did you read what i said ?
If they talked about Source then "READ ON"
I belived they dont talked about 'Source'
