Local servers?

Well i was just wondering if its possible to find servers in Australia, if there are any such servers, and if so how to find them.
Cause the ping of 700 anywhere up to 2500 (stuck on the spot) is infuriating.
note i only have a 56k modem

what server do u go on?
or do u have broadband?
...or perhaps u just cope with the ping...?
