Left 4 Dead

Turtle Rock Studios and Valve today announce Left 4 Dead, a co-operative multiplayer action game from the makers of Counter-Strike.

"By leveraging its industry-leading AI technology and years of Counter-Strike development experience, Turtle Rock is building upon the elements that make Counter-Strike successful and applying them to Left 4 Dead," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "What Counter-Strike did for multiplayer action games, Left 4 Dead will do for co-op games."

Left 4 Dead is built atop the most advanced version of the Source Engine and introduces version 2 of Turtle Rock's artificial intelligence (A.I.) technology.

Left 4 Dead will debut on the PC in 2007. More information is available upon request.

I love co-op games, I'll have to keep my eye out on this one.

And by artificial intelligence...does that mean this co-op will be against bots? or npc's? Or what? If so, that's kinda cool, a co op game versus npc's is always fun. Kind of like N64's Perfect dark.

No more like, DOOM co-op... You know, the game that introduced the first FPS co-op experience...? You fight against computer controlled entities, though the entities will most likely be somewhat stupid considering that it's a few of you vs an army of them (kind of like Brain Bread).

Yes, and I was playing DOOM 1 on 14.4k dial up back then . . .

And when I say HL2 for the mods, that sorta implies the Source engine, but thank you for carefully reading my post before digging into it.

He was referring to the first part of your last statement: "HL2 is great, but it's greatness is gonna finally get going." He wasn't referring to the mod part. He doesn't believe HL2, the game, is great. Obviously you do. I agree with Sandstorm, but I'm just your friendly neighborhood Supreme God Emperor of the Universe so who am I, right? Don't be so quick to take offense without rereading his post.

I don't know how I feel about this mod. I'm not really interested in co-op, and I have a feeling that they're going to send waves and waves of enemies at you, and that's just not fun. I wonder if there will be bosses, and if so how will they be handled. Is one guy going to be able to stand in a corner and shoot while the other runs around the boss? Things like that worry me. And the CS part. I hate CS.
