I've watched one or two eps of DBZ, pretty much all of DBZ (most of it more than once, too), and a few eps of DBGT. I've also seen all DBZ movies, to my knowledge, my favorite being 'The Return of Cooler'.

I stopped putting up with how they would stop the series once they reached a certain point, go back to the beginning, show all the episodes again, show 10 new ones, and go back to the beginning again. I never saw the end of the Cell saga on TV, and about halfway through the Buu saga, I had had enough of the same super-villain that I skipped to the last battle episode.

DBZ represents all that is wrong with corporations milking a franchise for money. ****ty games (and you know, deep down, that they were all bad), and a TV series that was about 250 episodes longer than it ever had the content to support.

So did Dbz invoke some powerful emotions?, Cause you to spring into action and create your own cartoon about super space monkeys?, or did it just cause you to become..aroused?
It's all relative, my friends...

a TV series that was about 250 episodes longer than it ever had the content to support.
Wow, that's exactly how I feel about Naruto, too. Must be a really ****ty business.

Anyone remember DBZ morning specials? They'd show DBZ sagas voted by the public all morning. However Toonami had an annoying chat service blocking half the screen.
Yeah I remember that. Remember when they used to air the Tree of Might film in segments as episodes?

Wow, I was wrong:

DRAGON BALL Z, the international hit animated series, made its U.S. debut Fall 1996. With more than 500 episodes in the overall series which has posted top ratings in both Europe and Asia and over $2.95 billion in related merchandising worldwide, DRAGON BALL Z is ready to explode onto the U.S. market with 26 half-hour filled with all the action and mystery that has captivated audiences the world over. Produced by FUNimation Productions Inc. and syndicated by Saban Domestic Distribution, the series has already cleared stations representing more than 86% of the country.

This epic saga has topped the Japanese ratings charts for more than ten years, consistently remaining the number one children's show there. In France, the show has dominated the competition as well, and for three years the show was "number one... maintaining a 65% rating since premiering," according to Nikkei Trendy. The trend continue into Spain as well, where Sofres reported that the show recorded an "average market share topping 75%."

Having made $140 million in DRAGON BALL Z merchandising in 1994 in Japan alone, Bandai is proud to be the master toy licensee in the United States. As Paul Nojima, President of Bandai America explains, "Dragon Ball has been one of Bandai's most successful toy lines in history, and we are very excited to be a part of DRAGON BALL Z in the U.S.A."

What accounts for the amazing success of the television series and merchandising of DRAGON BALL Z is a combination of items including the incredible richness of the story line and the depth and endearing personalities of the vividly portrayed characters. No wonder, though. It was created by one of Japan's greatest authors, Akira Toriyama.

Whatever the reason, DRAGON BALL Z is captivating American audiences. It is a mystical action adventure series of riveting stories, driven by extraordinary characters who embody the essence of good and evil. Join Goku, the hero of the story, and his allies as they battle for all that is good against the evil force of the Saiyans. It is already achieving high ratings making it one of the top syndicated animated series in the USA and has been selected by TV GUIDE as one of its top ten best new shows for kids in its October 26th Parent's Issue. As TV GUIDE reports, "Japanese animation (anime, to the initiated) is rapidly becoming a full-fledged fad here, and Japan's top children's show is riding that wave into the US syndication. An Action epic, DRAGON BALL Z (Check TV GUIDE listings) turns the Superman myth upside down: Its hero, Goku, also came to Earth as an infant with powers far beyond those of mortal men ? but he was sent to destroy the planet, not defend it. Fortunately, a wise martial-arts master (along with a bonk on the head) turned him away from evil toward family values..."

DRAGON BALL has not only spawned over 500 episodes of animated shows, but has created a merchandising frenzy with sales of $2.95 billion in related merchandise.

Akira Toriyama has reached a status few artists can hope for. An Akira Toriyama Exhibition has recently toured nine public art galleries and other venues drawing attendances of over 330,000 people. This is the second time in history a manga artist has achieved this level of notoriety (the first being Osamu Tezuka). The National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo has made an unprecedented move by exhibiting a manga artist's work. The works of Akira Toriyama can be seen displayed with that of artists such as Monet and Miro.

Yeah, but in japo it had 291. Well, I kind think of the uncut episodes as a different set. But they're dBZ nonetheless. Darn ocean dubs...
Thats 15 episodes =/ anyone watched them and know what they're about?
Why would Funi and Ocean cut out 15 episodes away?

I don't think they cut them, I think the scenes from some episodes got incorporated into other episodes in the dub, for time purposes and such.

Nopes. David is only half right. Scenes were cut off. yes. However they did not get incorporated elsewhere. For instance, hardcore DB fans will regret scenes about Launch being removed. I believe Funi did that because it wanted new fans to feel comfotable with DBZ. Like I did. If they had shown Launch turning into Angry launch.... I'd have quit watching DBZ. And other stuff like Gohan prancing around in episode 1. Actually, that one wasnt worth much except that it spoke much about how Gohan differed from his dad. Gohan is shown running from a sabertooth. The very same sabertooth was running away from goku in DB. Nice way to contrast between the father and the son. And they cut off how Tien, Krillin etc climbed Korin Tower again and went on to Kame's place. And how Yamcha etc informed Tien about Goku's death. And there was another episode that was cut off about a junk Capsule Corp robot that is hidden in a cave. The robot helps Gohan get out of the cave and it gets destroyed in the process. This is right after the dinosaur episode, kinda shows how Gohan gets harder. And even in later Sagas, some scenes are filtered off. Like whenever Mr Satan's name was used, it was changed to hercule. And certain violent Scenes were removed from Gohan vs Cell. Like ssj2 Gohan stomping on a Cell Jr's hand. etc etc. But even though they may seem stupid, these scenes are all part of DBZ and should be there. I enjoyed the uncut Saiyan Saga a LOT more than the cut one.
EDIT
OH OH I FORGOT.
episode 64b. Super Namek Piccolo
(It shows how piccolo enters the fight with Frieza) Was cut off entirely. This was where the transition on CN from Ocean to Funi took place. Funi only cut out violence. Ocean ****heads cut out the fun parts.
Remember DB was rated as 10 and above. lol 10 year olds now watch rhino porn on Discovery channel courtesy of Eminem and yo Grandma. lmao.
