Is half-life only needed to play online or do you need it for the whole of esf

Well is half-life just needed to play on the net or do you need it to activate the whole of esf?Sorry for this very stupid and pitiful question but i just need to know(unless i didn't read the stickies proply) and also im not a noob.Oh yeah and i have never in my entire life installed a mod thats why im asking also no links will be needed i got fileplanet,esfstuff,invisionpowerboards(i think) and this site so no need to worry about links i hope.

Well when you install halflife you have to enter a CD key, and it uses this to play online. Aslong as you have halflife installed on your system and you have a valid cd key then you can play halflife and any of its mods on the internet.

So your saying half-life and the cd-key is only needed for the net.Well what i mean is could i download half-lifes version 1.1.1.0(even without halflife) and then be able to download esf with no problems but the only thing is i can't play online because i don't have half-life or does halflife open up the whole system for esf?Or do you only need the cd-key?

no, you HAVE to have halflife, cause esf runs on the halflife engine. All 1.1.1.0 does is update the online side of halflife which you need to play on the internet.

No Halflife - No Online Play - No Mods

You can pick up a copy of half life for around 20 bucks if you can dig one up from a pile of old or used games at circuit city or best buy.
