I've never tried FireFox. Kinda curious to try it just because its the browser we are comparing. However, I feel there's no NEED for myself to switch permanently.

I've read this thread and its been pretty common to hear "there's no spyware, no pop-ups, no downloaded viruses-- unlike IE". Well, from my own experience, I've owned my computer for just over 3 years now. Its a Win XP computer with IE as the default browser. Perhaps I can clear some misunderstandings on why you think IE to to blame for these spywares, viruses, pop-ups.

First off, when pointing fingers as what caused one of the above, you should turn ur hand around and point to yourself. The #1 source of spyware comes from programs YOU have downloaded. Programs like Kazaa, Morpheus, LimeWire, etc... have all been proven to carry some spyware program. Secondly, pop-ups are going to happen in IE. If Microsoft wanted to eliminate pop-ups, they could. But there's a reason they don't. Ever signed onto the ESF forums and "pop"-- you've got a private msg! Now, this is a type of pop-up. My point is stating that SOME sites you go to have some what important pop-ups that SHOULD NOT be blocked. Third, viruses don't usually travel down the IE highway. Most of them are coming in thru mail. However, if you have an account like Hotmail and you get a virus installed from that-- your thoughts may be "damn IE, why can't you detect these VIRUSES!!!" When in reality, you opened the email and took the chance of something bad. I recommend using Outlook express for all webmail accounts so your Norton program can detect.

My suggest about the pop-ups is to get POW! from www.analogx.com. You can pick and choose which pop-ups to block. My other suggestion is to crank up the security in your IE preferences to atleast Medium-- and use custom security to disable automatic downloading of unsigned content.

U17, MS included a pop-up blocker, that can be set to allow pop-ups on specfic sites, or specfic pop-ups. XD

As for the "clicking accept" arguement, thats horsecrap. NEVER had I EVER pressed "I accept" to any of that crap, yet it manages to find its way onto my PC whenever I use IE for any extended period of time.

/me goes to try the SP2 thingy o_o

Ok to be honest i had never really used anything other then IE. I was happy content and pleased with its services until it started screwing around. Installing spyware and such. Until Kurt finally showed me the light. I have to agree Mozilla seems to be superior

** EDIT **
i voted IE without looking some mod please change my vote to Mozilla or get rid of 1 IE vote kthnx :laff:

IE doesn't install spyware, idiots who click yes do, but MS made IE more idiot proof by making it harder to hit yes, and stops BS software from installing completly.

I maintian that you can get spyware without clicking yes to those stupid popups, as I never clicked yes, but my comp was flooded with it (not just from IE, but I know some of it came from IE)

Oh well, Ill stay with mozilla, as right now it works better for me. Its all about personal preference. If you havn't tried both, you shouldn't even be posting, because your biased to one side (although I would find it hard to believe if someone said they never used IE before o_o)

True... I used IE yesterday to test something, I ran ad-aware right after, and it found 22 identified items. Did the same thing with Firefox, found 2 identified items. That's good enough to convince me, since it was me who tested it and saw the results myself.

Although, this SP2 sounds pretty good, although it's a shame that I can't download it and test it out. :S

Are you liek diehard Firefox fan, where you lfie depends on it? :p
See it could be used both ways.
I'm comparing firesux with a version of IE these IE fans havn't even touched, and if they liek IE now, they will love this version. Firefox is gonna be a short lived monority.

I wouldn't say that. By the time SP2 is released, Firefox will have had lots more updates. We're just gonna have to see what happens, but as of right now...

Firefox > IE

God this annoys me.

"Omg firefox pwnz!1111"

"No Ie battar rwaarr11!!1"

God you all sound like babies. Let people use what they want, not argue and try and force your opinions on others.

Yeh, this thread isn't about converting people. It has to do with which you feel is better. I've used IE for longer than I care to remember. Decided to try out mozilla's product, ended up liking it better.

So try to keep things civil. If you feel the need to flame people about their opinion, then come flame me and see where that gets you.

I'm watching you SS :p

I think this thread has served it's purpose. It was a decision as to wether people preferred I.E or Mozilla / Firefox. Results are even, which shows the programs both have merits and weaknesses.

To stop arguing, I am going to close this because it's served its purpose.

Closed.
