Hi
I've bought the silver package from steam but unlike what it says in the FAQ Half Life is not included.
Why do you need hl1 in the first place?
I wanna play! :(

ESF is a half-life 1 modification
ESF needs HL1 files to be played, that's why you need it!

well if you can't click the install button it means you haven't played half-life before
atleast not on steam!

start steam, start half-life and start a new game of it
wait for it to load look around the map, quit and try installing esf
btw it's an half-life 1 mod
not half-life 2

try this run STEAM

open the play games menu
find half life and dubbleclick it
if it runs than you play a level and try to install again
if it gives you the buy HL screen than you nead to register it with STEAM

I don't understand, I mean this really isn't a challenge...
start steam, Press create a new account and follow the intructions
anyway if you want more help, please create your own thread instead of going offtopic in another unrelated thread

I have a steam account. I asked how I get half life on it -_-; Please read before being rude.

I have an account but for some reason hl isn't on it, last time I installed it, hl was on it.

Excuse me I actually missread your post :(
Hmm well in order to register HL, double click the game and it should ask for a cd-key, fill it in and you're done

The game should be on the list in "Play Games" right? Then I double click it... I remember that's what I did before but hl isn't even there :S

WTF are you talking about. If you want to play online you nead STEAM.
If you have STEAM the installer allredy finds it by itself.
The install button error comes when you install evrything and dont run HL.
When you run HL it makes some additional files neaded to install.

When you play it once the installer detects those files and you can install ESF its that simple

maybe the sticky title should be changed to a title like "1.2.2/1.2.3 Setup Problems" so people get the title and question answered quickly rather then having heaps of threads about it , i'd say this is about the 10th time this week this sorta answer has been given a question too ?

1.Install half-life on steam. Register it through Steam by clicking on Browse Games and go to register a game i already own , type in your Half-life cd-key and that let steam gather the nessacary files for half-life

2.If this is the first time you are running half-life , run the half-life hazard course

3.Install esf to your steam\Steam Apps\Account name\half-life.

4. (if using an older installer) the current version of esf is version 1.2.3 , let's say you use an older installer such as 1.2 full , ontop of that you will have to install patches in their ascending order (in this case 1.2.1 > 1.2.2 & then 1.2.3)

I really think though that the stickies this is based on should add a hint because people always ask for help going "PLZ HELP ME ESF WON'T INSTALL :(" when a little hint in the title could give them the message that this is the answer to their problem
