I believe that's my cue.

I'd be more than happy to go up against you, KelesK. Don't feel that you have to show mercy because I'm new at this (although you are quite welcome to ^^).

I'll ref this, if there are no objections.

Your venue is Doku's home metropolis, with a twist. Something, or someone has created a rift in time and space, and the city is crumbling. Rumours would have it that KelesK has some nefarious motive for his presence in the city, and certain conspiracy theorists maintain that the controller of chaos might even be responsible for the rift...

Edit:

Oh yeah. Commence smacktalk!

The only nefarious motives I have are reserved for the rearrangement of Doku's face.

EDIT: I just updated my profile.

Doku stood on the outskirts of his hometown, binoculars in hand. A city built up with the guise of the modern Forumscant metropolises. Bright lights and LCD billboards lit up the city and the surrounding night sky with a myriad of colour; however, when compared to nearly all the other large cities within the Forumscant, this one was merely all for show. He himself seemed out of place in it - A short, scruffy looking swordsman with a light build and a baby-face. Looking outward from the city into what should have been a clear night Doku could see nothing aside the ominous crimson aura which had plagued the city for nearly a week. Numerous disturbances and time distortions had continually eaten into the city spreading panic and fear amongst the citizens.

The actual cause had been discovered several days ago inside one of the subway tunnels. A large rift had opened up, devouring one of the trains that ran along the line. When the scientists investigated they too were taken in by the rift and so it had been cordoned off until such time as it could be properly investigated. The blame had fallen squarely on a wanderer who had been aimlessly drifting from town to town, city to city and each time strange events had occurred before the city disappeared. The citizens had been told to remain calm and that it was an experiment gone wrong, however rumours spread like wildfire. The wanderer was coming and the rift was of his creation.

Doku had heard the rumours alter and vary from person to person; it was becoming monotonous and stale however the one thing which hadn’t altered was the name. He’d thought it just some bizarre coincidence that the sky had turned red around the same time; however the stories and newsfeeds of cities going missing were something he couldn’t overlook right now.

Scanning the horizon lit up only by the aura of crimson, Doku could see the alleged source of all this phenomena. The man, if he could even be called that anymore, donned torn and tattered robes which appeared more like rags sewn together more than anything and what little remained of the hood covered the wanderer’s face. He was still several dozen kilometres from the city and took slow unsteady steps towards the city, seemingly taking a few moments after each step to regain his balance. Despite this Doku couldn’t help but feel uneasy, this unwelcome nomad carried with him an aura of horrifying power which Doku could feel pressing against his psyche.

Lowering the binoculars Doku weighed up his options. It would be at least another day before the drifter would arrive at the cities outer limits. Doku was too young to remember much of the horrible conflict that had followed the rumble. He had been told many stories though, both of noble sacrifice and shameless evil. Stories of a fighter named Kelesk whose brutal attempts to stop the Last Rider once Engar had fallen had been in vain and disappeared shortly after. Only to reappear briefly in a city which had since been wiped from the map.

The stories had played on his mind as a child. Growing up and knowing full well that monsters were real and that at least one was wondering around was enough to make him lose more than a few nights of sleep but now the stories had become a potential reality. Sighing, he turned and headed back to his apartment which sat on the third floor of a rather small block of units placing his weapons on a coffee table next to his bed. He had time to rest before the wanderer would reach the city and so he closed his eyes to rest. Once more the stories of his childhood created destructive images within his mind.

* * *

Doku woke up with sunlight in his face and instantly heard something that made his blood run cold. Women and children screaming, hundreds of panicked footsteps running in many different directions, men yelling orders of various degrees of hostility and fear – Some even provocative. Hurriedly grabbing his gear, Doku jumped from his third story window and gracefully landed on the footpath below drawing seconds of attention by fleeing citizens before they continued to run towards the centre of the city. The city’s streets shook gently beneath his feet, no thanks to the growing time distortion the city had in its backyard he wagered.

The street Doku’s apartment was on was a primary roadway both in and out of the centre of the city, a four lane major roadway which was usually littered with cars. Glancing around he saw practically nothing only a few parked cars with parking tickets on the windows. Briefly allowing himself a sigh of relief he looked away from the city and it became instantly clear why people were panicking. It instantly hit him - He’d overslept. The wanderer was well within the city and walking down the road at the same slow pace as when he’d first been sighted. Streams of sunlight shone down some breaking through the rips in his hood lighting up small parts of his scarred facial features.

Doku no longer had the virtue of time to surmise a plan of attack and quickly weighed up his options. The wanderer was moderately well built from what he could guess based on where the robe clung to him with dried blood and mud and judging by his slow and uneasy movements and somewhat hunched figure it was a safe guess to assume he was badly injured. Though if this really was who the rumours had lead him to believe, he didn’t want to take too large a risk and underestimate his opponent.

“Lord of Chaos!” Doku’s voice was loud and abrupt amongst the drone of fleeing citizens. It had an air of command about it, like a leader rallying his men for battle. “I urge you to turn back. This city nor it’s people have any quarrel with you.”

The hooded figure took another unsteady step towards the centre of the city. Doku may have been armed and standing in his way but from where Doku was standing he might have not even been there at all.

“KelesK,” He spoke out once more with the same commanding strength. “Please leave us be, you will not find what you are looking for here.”

Kelesk took one more step but seemed to pull himself up short; another ray of light broke through the rips in his hood, Doku could see Kelesk’s lips peel back over his teeth into a snarl as well as the large scar over the right hand side of his mouth, some of the flesh missing where his lip should have been. At this distance Doku could also see the extent of what Kelesk had endured; blood and dried mud was smeared over the robes it was almost sickening to think of how badly maimed Kelesk’s body was.

Doku shuddered suddenly, giving him only enough time to query the reason before raspy words ate into his mind as if someone were screaming in his ear.

“Get out of my sight. . . Mortal.”

Doku clenched the hilt of his claymore with both hands, raising it in preparation but Kelesk didn’t move an inch. It was questionable if he was even breathing.

“This is the last time I’m going to ask you. Please leave this place.” The strength in Doku’s voice feigned, this time the request was more of a plea.

The ground around Kelesk suddenly cracked spanning across the roadway as the images of a few banned troublemakers walked past the two - An illusion created by the rift. It was becoming stronger.

“Why are you really here Kelesk?” Questioned Doku, not expecting an answer. “You annihilate town after town without remorse, don’t you think it’s time this stopped?”

People had slowly started gathering around the two at considerably safe distances. Some leaning out of windows others looking on from gardens or behind what few cars there were still on the side of the road all whispering amongst themselves.

A small exhale was heard from under the hood, one which sounded like an exhausted laugh as Kelesk pulled something from within his robes and let his arm flop back to his side revealing a small rod-like object in his hand.

Doku looked on in confusion in an attempt to assess the situation but a handful of seconds was all he got. The air around Kelesk rippled noticeably and the people who had shown up to watch began to flee once more.

“No. . .” The raspy voice was no longer in his head, this time coming from the spectre himself.

It all seemed so surreal for what seemed like an eternity after that. The swordsman could see the small rod extending to the size of a staff and had noticeable prongs at each end. All at once windows cracked and then broke inward spraying what few people hid inside with a hailstorm of shattered glass which tore chunks of flesh from bone indiscriminately before dissolving into nothing more than a sparkling dust. How many windows actually broke, Doku couldn’t tell. Cement rendering tore away from steel foundations on the office building to the wanderer’s left leaving not even a trace of dust as if an unknown force were simply eating into the building. The asphalt beneath Kelesk’s feet cracked and gave way creating small potholes. Doku’s mind began to race, he knew this was it, he knew he had to move.

His own movement felt lagged and heavy. Out of the corner of his eyes he could see people fleeing, bursts of amber energy erupting around them, his eyes blurred, his mind felt clouded and groggy. Willing his body to move he managed to spin around flinging his claymore around towards the unseen presence behind him, slamming it into something hard which shook off the nauseating feeling clouding his head. Kelesk was in his face, the metal staff menacingly pushing towards his head, he could only now see the snarl clearly, the scar that had eaten away at his face.

Out of the corner of his eye Doku could see a pool of blood leaking into one of the fissures in the road from the footpath. What remained of a body was cut up into pieces, blood spattered on the objects around it.

“Not until he lies dead at my feet.” Kelesk’s raspy voice muttered.

“The end doesn’t always justify the means.” Doku replied glancing at other bodies which had been mutilated in the same manner as the first.

Kelesk huffed at the statement, pulling the staff away from Doku and swinging it around behind him and diagonally upward aiming for the swordsman’s head. Fully prepared for the attack Doku swung his sword around knocking the staff back in the same direction it came from, seeing a chance to counter Doku lunged forward attempting to stab Kelesk with the large sword. Using momentum as his only ally the spectre swung his body around moving only centimetres to his left before the staff came down and collided with Doku’s sword lancing it into a crack in the asphalt and forcing him to stumble off in the other direction. The swordsman wasted no time, pulling his sword from the road and jumping toward the off-balanced deity bringing his claymore forward swapping his main hand to his left as the claymore heaved over his left shoulder in a wide horizontal swipe. Kelesk could only sense the attack coming and knew he had no time left to regain his balance. In the blink of an eye Kelesk’s body emitted a bright burst of amber energy and disappeared leaving Doku’s strike to hit nothing but air.

Grunting as he attempted to pull the weapon up before he lost balance himself Doku managed to hear another burst of energy above him swinging his claymore wildly upward over his head as Kelesk’s body came spinning down from above. Both weapons swung through the air missing each other and before Doku gave it a moment’s thought his body rolled on its own to the side, avoiding the point where Kelesk landed driving the staff into the road.

Pulling himself to his feet Doku managed a seconds glance up at Kelesk who disappeared in another burst of amber energy again giving the swordsman no time to react as another horizontal swipe battered into the blade of his claymore followed by a seemingly instant second attack from the rear end of the staff as Kelesk spun around from the impact of the first parry. This one Doku foresaw coming though, throwing himself backwards to avoid the attack spinning on a loose chunk of asphalt that was sitting atop the road and using the gutter to push himself back at the spectre forcing his blade squarely against the staff Kelesk had brought up as defence.

It wasn’t much more than a shove but it sent Kelesk reeling backward stumbling several times before he finally tripped over. Doku couldn’t help but see the humour in it. Kelesk had been using little more than his energy to keep himself on his feet. Assuming he could stay close to him, Kelesk wouldn’t be able to find space to swing the cumbersome staff around. He’d found a weak point.

The spectre lay still on the road, his body releasing small surges of the amber energy. Doku convinced he’d landed a decisive blow took a paced step forward stopping momentarily as a large surge of energy sparked out at nearby street sign which had been bent out of shape. Doku could only manage a wry smile, the body hadn’t moved at all since it had fallen, not even to breathe, but yet he was still nervous. The sparks of energy didn’t help the matter since it had been made blatantly obvious by this point that it was that very energy which was keeping Kelesk on his feet. It would have been enough to make anyone in his situation wary.

Doku took another cautious step forward staring the body down like a hawk. Another small spark of energy ran over the body which had remained motionless for what had been several minutes now. His mind spun in circles of contradicting questions and theories.

Was that all it took?

Is his body really that frail?

No he’s bluffing!

Doku shook his head trying to clear his thoughts, clenching his eyes shut and taking a in a long, deep breath of cool night air. He opened his eyes and to his surprise the body was gone the robes left lying on the ground. Looking around franticly he could see nothing which remotely looked like what he’d been fighting, looking back at the robes he heard a small grinding sound behind him, spinning around there stood Kelesk, his clothes torn and blood spattered, holding the staff in front of him aggressively. His mouth etched with a menacing grin. Instantly he tossed his claymore on the ground beside him and drew his longsword. Clutching it left handed he lowered into a defensive stance and waited.

Kelesk began laughing, a raspy maniacal laugh which echoed through the now abandoned streets. The swordsman shuddered, it was an infuriating laugh, yet it sent a chill down his spine. Overconfidence filled it.

“You think this is funny.” He muttered, Kelesk only laughing louder in response. “Wrecking parts of a city and killing everyone around you is funny to you?”

Doku had noticed blood seeping through the cracks in the road beneath both him and Kelesk. It was sickening in more than one respect. Doku’s face scrunched up as he swapped his weapon to his right hand and charged forward, jumping forward metres from where Kelesk was standing and raising his sword to attack with an overhead strike. Only then did it hit him, an uncontrollable sense of fear washed over him the second Kelesk stopped laughing. The radical energy the deity had been using to keep himself on his feet flooded over him like a tidal wave and only then did he realise Kelesk was standing on his own, no support, he was standing perfectly upright.

It was too late to halt his attack, swinging the weapon down violently at his opponent who disappeared in a brilliant flash of amber energy, far brighter than before. Sparks of energy tore at the air where he’d once been standing. Spinning around he saw a huge discharge of energy rip into the steel foundations of the building his energy had eaten away at when the fight had begun and there he was standing upright staff held beside him, the front end closer to the ground then the rear which was around head height. The building shuddered in protest and chunks of cement fell from various parts of the building, breaking apart as they hit the footpath.

The spectre said nothing, smiling manically before energy burst outward and he disappeared. Doku raised his sword up in defence without thinking feeling something slam into with tremendous force. The two weapons gnashed against one another violently shaking as Doku tried to push back but he couldn’t, barely managing to keep the deity’s weapon at bay. Looking his attacker in the eye the swordsman noticed the grin growing, sparks flooding over the staff’s surface to the ends. A brief moment of panic set in as he heard two bursts of energy, one behind him, the other behind Kelesk. Glancing downward he saw the cause; two large teeth-like blades of energy glowed menacingly from the staff, arching around behind Kelesk. Two and two set in and instantly he ducked down and Kelesk pulled his weapon towards himself and two large teeth-like blades buzzed over his head taking with them some of his hair. Doku was left in shock for only a second before he heard a discharge of energy, pushing himself away from where he was kneeled on the road and skidding off into the gutter as another burst lit up above where he was and the blades of the now scythe ripped into the road.

Looking toward Kelesk a bead of sweat traced down Doku’s features from his forehead. He was barely able to dodge the attacks, let alone see them coming but something was amiss and he knew it full well.

At the beginning of the fight his movements were slower, cumbersome. He could barely stand up. Now all of a sudden after I push him over his body has completely recovered. I just don’t get it.

Kelesk’s body sparked but not in the usual manner, Doku’s head ****ed slightly and watched as for only a second the body of his attacker faded and turned to what appeared to look like the static on a TV set. It was only a second but it reiterated the previous thought.

The swordsman pulled himself to his feet and prepared for the next volley of attacks to come but they didn’t, Kelesk merely lowered his weapon to his side and held his left hand out to the side slightly, fingers opened.

“So does this mean you’re giving up, monster?” Doku hadn’t expected a positive response but he figured it couldn’t hurt to ask.

Kelesk’s face twisted slightly as if a stabbing pain had shot through his body but Doku could tell that was far from what was wrong, the sky, which had since been ridded of its ominous crimson glow was replaced by a solid amber but it wasn’t just the sky, the whole area around Kelesk was encased in it. The buzz of energy was ear-splitting as it began to shrink into the palm of Kelesk’s hand until nothing more than a speck could be seen.

“This is where you die, scum!”

Doku took a step back, his eye widened in fear. The power resonating from the speck of light was similar to the power he could feel when Kelesk had been approaching the city. It was horrifying, there was no other way to describe it.

Then, as if by miracle it happened again, the freak holding what Doku had thought to be his demise faded once more but this time completely disappeared taking with it all the battle scars it had left on the environment around him, but it was soon replaced by a burst of energy Doku knew all too well. Kelesk flew forward, the modiwan robes Doku had thought discarded were being worn once more. This was the one Doku had considered easy prey. The two locked weapons, the scythe like weapon Kelesk was using no more than a minute ago was nowhere to be seen, only the staff he’d originally wielded.

“What was that, some kind of mind trick?” Doku grunted through the parry.

Kelesk didn’t answer, bursting into nothingness once more but this time Doku could sense him. The pace kept up by the illusion had forced the swordsman’s reaction time and senses to heighten in order to survive. Spinning himself around Doku swung his longsword violently into where Kelesk reappeared, knocking him towards the ground. Doku stood his ground watching intently as Kelesk disappeared before hitting the ground. This was his chance, quickly reaching down he grabbed his discarded claymore with his left hand and flung it into the open air where Kelesk had been falling, as predicted the sword vanished. Turning around to where the final burst emitted from he saw Kelesk fly backward impaled by the claymore, slamming into the side of a building. A loud clang followed as the staff dropped from his hand to the footpath. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth and the wound in his torso where the claymore had him pinned to the building adding fresh blood to his clothes. He struggled for a short period but soon stopped.

In eye for an eye fashion Kelesk threw his hand outward towards the swordsman. Doku noticing the small blur of amber too late as it hit the bottom on his right hand taking with it his fourth and fifth digits a little below the knuckle.

Yelping in pain Doku dropped his sword and clutched his hand, blood seeping from the wounds as he feebly tried to stop the blood. Pulling small silk ribbons out of his coat and tying tourniquets around each with his good hand and teeth.

“You were warned to leave this city.” Scolded Doku, looking up at Kelesk. “I told you I had no quarrel with you but you refused to listen.”

Kelesk tried to spit out a mouthful of blood at Doku which trickled down his chin and onto his robes.

“At least I know the blood on you is your own.” He continued, grabbing his blade with his left hand and standing up, approaching Kelesk until he was only a metre away.

“You know nothing.” Kelesk muttered. Blood spitting out onto the swordsman’s jacket.

“Wrong Kelesk, I know this is your end.”

Kelesk huffed, managing a wry smile as he looked at the swordsman’s bleeding hand.

“Do your worst.”

The Metropolis was home to many strange happenings. Mysterious disappearances, black marketing and underground bloodsports amongst other things. The problem was that corruption was very much a part of the city, and as long as the upper classes weren't bothered and still kept their money it was allowed to remain so.

However, the last few weeks had presented a situation which not even they could ignore. Up until the present, the population had been divided into those who worked, and those who they worked for. Whilst incredibly in favour of the owners, it produced a system which fuelled the city's economy and met the demands of the consumer. An inherent flaw in the arrangement was that if workers did not work, nothing would get done. This was the current dilemma.

On Monday on one of the previous weeks, not a soul turned up to the factories in the southern region of the metropolis. The directors were furious and immediately accredited to a mass underground strike, potentially due to the abysmal wages and safety. It wasn't a usual occurrence, work was scarce so nobody dared rebel in fear of being replaced by their neighbour. Announcements were made over the city-wide intercom. The majority of the time, it only blurted out advertisements which nobody could afford whilst portraying the items on a taunting screen. However, on that day, all the signs shut off. The fluorescent shadow they cast upon the streets faded, casting some areas into total darkness, buildings had already created a permanent eclipse upon the poorer regions.

The barrage of degradation and derogatory language enveloped even the most isolated regions for a solid hour. Nobody would dare cross management after this assault, and the next day was threatened to be the work force's last if they did not appear. Most directors had mercenaries at their command, and were not above slaughtering disobedient workers. A whisper of the name KelesK passed through the rest of the slums, surely such a creature couldn't possibly exist, especially in a place like this.

The next day saw no improvement. A particularly short-fused director sent his entire squad into the urban area. The urban region of the south was no exception to the massive class barrier, apartments were stacked as high as the laws of physics would let them, and then some. Streets were enveloped in a grey smog, as a result of the activity of the factories as well as the disregard for the environment administration seemed to have.

The team approached the outskirts of the area. However, the usual grey mist had been replaced by a black blanket, suffocating the region. Surely no-one could survive conditions like this? As the team entered into the deep fog, they noticed an incredible heat. They were baffled by the sudden change in temperature, it was undetectable from the outside. In order to escape the heat, they took refuge in a near-by apartment. Inside, they saw many people, potentially around 30, in a circle with their hands on their faces. The squad leader grabbed one by the neck and threw them against the already battered wall. Forcing eye contact he opened his mouth ready to verbally harass the individual.

However, the person he had grabbed seemed to be in ruins. A woman, perhaps near the age of 25, stared as if she had no reason to exist. It was clear that everyone in the room had been neglecting themselves and their surroundings, they were covered in dirt and sweat. As soon as the leader let go, the woman returned to her position, almost elastically. All they heard was the muttering;

“God, please let these people leave safely...”

The team stepped outside, trying to make sense of the situation. What did she mean by leave safely? They decided to report their findings and made for where they entered. They approached the barrier. Ready to enter the air of the outside, they suddenly halted. They felt an intense heat behind them. They could see that there was an intense source of light behind them, even the black fog was reflecting red light. The squad turned quickly.

In front of them was a mammoth of a man in the middle of a crimson inferno. However, the term man could only be used to describe his appearance.

“Those who are foolish to enter my domain shall suffer eternally!”

The squad opened fire, any creature capable of surviving such conditions surely must be dangerous. However, their shots didn't seem to even reach the individual let alone cause damage.

“I am KelesK!” proclaimed the figure. “Do not cross me, humans. My power exceeds your feeble imaginations.”

Although they hadn't felt it immediately. After their initial attack, they had began to feel an uncontrollable dread alike to nothing they had ever experienced. The team all cowered in despair, their eyes full of tears and their hearts with their darkest nightmares. Many of the squad turned their weapons upon themselves. With a final look of desperation on their faces, almost insane with terror, they pulled their triggers in unison. The leader was the sole survivor of the team who had only met the demon less than a minute before.

“I'm not afraid of you... monster!” spluttered the captain, his confidence falling rapidly. “You can't be real! You... shouldn't exist!”

KelesK had turned what once was presumably a cold and heartless man in a terror-struck wreck. He laughed in a cruel manor.

“Human. What hope do you have of surviving if the rest of those who assaulted me? I shall offer you divine absolution!”

The monster raised his hand, the captain's final thoughts were of his wife, did it really end like this? What had he done wrong and what was this monstrosity? Only his first question was answered.

“It does end here, human.” KelesK boomed in a voice cold enough to even subside the heat he was generating. The fog suddenly flashed orange and the captain was no more. KelesK had also vanished, although his outcome was far better than that of his victim.

Other urban regions also succumbed to the darkness. The city's functionality slowly began to decline, workers had seemingly ceased to exist and none knew why. Nobody who entered the black ever left. The occasional flash of orange illuminated some areas, but these were infrequent. The sky had reddened, perhaps that was its normal colour? Nobody knew anything different to the grey norm.

Doku looked down into the darkness from the top of one of the many skyscrapers. Fortunately for him, his home area had surrendered to the shadow infestation whilst he was dealing with matters from an anonymous client. This client had never turned up to the agreed meeting spot. He had waited two hours, taking time to reflect and ponder the cause of the city's dilemma. The spread had slowed down considerably after its initial appearance and had been doing so since.

However, he noticed a lone figure ascending to the upper levels of the city, a trail of darkness following him like a fiendish pet.

The individual gave off a distinct aura. Doku wasn't one to believe in superstition but he knew bad vibes when he felt them. The darkness accompanying him also caught his eye. Not giving his opponent a chance to escape, he leapt from the building, plummeting until he could find a rail he could use to swing himself to the entity.

It was gone. The rail had been there on his ascent of the skyscraper but now it had vanished. He was certain of it, there was no other method of climbing either up or down the building.

KelesK smirked at his confusion, surely someone who could be tricked so easily was not worth his time, despite the unusual energies radiating from his body. Doku's figure continued falling, he was certain he had seen it recently and of no sign of damage. He would have heard it if had been broken. Perhaps, this figure had a role in this. Could he obscure what Doku was seeing? Was the rail still there? If not, he really would be in trouble.

Doku grabbed. He felt a slight strain in his shoulder. He looked at his hand and was astounded. He could feel the rail but visually it was simply not present. He could see the soot-free section of wall behind it but nothing else. Quickly, he hurled himself towards the stranger, avoiding being put in the same situation again.

“Well done, mortal.” KelesK sneered. “My simple illusion didn't quite strike enough terror into your soul as I had hoped.” His opponent was a behemoth, Doku had fought enemies of similar size to this one but by no means anything as supernatural.

“KelesK, what brings you to this city? Surely we have nothing for you!” Doku proclaimed, perhaps not quite as loudly or bravely as he had anticipated. He could feel the energy of his opponent, this creature couldn't possibly be human?

“Correct!” KelesK announced as if it were blatantly obvious, as if he expected everyone to know so. “I am no mere human. My role for your pitiful civilisation is irrelevant to you. I am no mere legend, I am fact. My power is real and if you oppose me, you shall be crushed!”

Doku was used to smack talk, as an arena fighter, people would often make references to his mother or cutting him down to an even smaller size. However, these notions were probably very easy to follow through for his opponent. It would be a bad idea to strike first, he had no idea of what to expect but allowing his opponent to do as he pleases would be disastrous...

KelesK lifted his arm suddenly which was followed by a bone shattering crack. Pain shot down the right side of Doku's body, forcing him to clench it as if not doing so would cause further agony. Had he been attacked? With a simple raise of an arm? After the initial shock, the pain was still present, albeit not as sharp. Looking at his shoulder, it was clear that his arm had been broken.

“Boy! With a mere motion, I have rendered you powerless. If you do not interfere with my scheme, you shall not be smitten further!” KelesK announced, with a cruel smile. “At least not until the rest of the city falls.”

KelesK turned to the building he had been approaching and raised his arms. Black flames began to engulf the building, with the screams of the inhabitants shortly following. The sight of this was unusually disheartening. Nothing could stop this menace, nobody was there to help, Doku felt the impending doom and loneliness closing in. No-one would come for him again. The flames continued to grow, with the bottom segments seeming to solidify into a mist not unlike the one covering the city.

However, KelesK was unusually oblivious to his opponent's dismay. His entire focus seemed to be directed towards his work.

Suddenly, inspiration struck. Could KelesK's power usage divert his concentration to such an extent? It would explain the decline in the spread of his darkness as time progressed. His aura seemed less imposing than before. Now was the time to strike. Doku quickly discarded his claymore, he needed to be as quick as possible, and took the opportunity.

“Human, in your present condition...”

He ended his sentence abruptly, forced to take a defensive stance by the assault. The human had surprised him. He could see the determination in his child-like eyes. Perhaps they had more will power than previously expected. This would prove irksome. His blade was forcing itself through his aura, shimmering blue. The plan was more important than avoiding minor damage. It would be a minor sacrifice.

The blade continued on its path, he could regenerate after he had vanquished the fool. The tip of the sword clanked against the concrete floor. A cascade of crimson followed. KelesK forced the boy back reacquiring his aura. The flames surrounding the building diminished.

Humans did surprise him sometimes, first lightning speed and now methods to cut through his aura. He would have to dispatch this pest before he could cause more damage whilst maintaining his hold on the city.

“Boy! Prepare for the ultimate suffering!”

All right, I have read both your posts, now let's get down to business:

I judge the areas from 1 to 5, where 5 is the highest and 1 is the lowest.

Kelesk:

In terms of creativity, you were a (4.5). I liked how you made the story somewhat mysterious and left room for revelations in further posts.

In terms of fluidity, you were a (3). There were a number of spelling and grammar mistakes, not to mention bizarre phrasings and a lack of commas that seems to imply that Australia has a shortage of them. A lot of your writing was hard to read, and that significantly subtracts from the experience.

In terms of detail and immersion, you were a (5). It was a very immersive post, and it wasn't difficult to imagine oneself there.

In terms of grasping your opponent's character, you got a (4). I think you got it down pretty well, though I found it somewhat lacking.

Overall this lands you at an average of (4.125) which is a very good post.

Dokutayuu:

In terms of creativity, you were a (3.5). I felt like you had a lot more to go on here, and that you could have done a lot more with the venue you were given. This is not to be expected of you, either, as it's your first round in Fight Club, and considering this, you were very good.

In terms of fluidity, you were a (4.5). Here, you far surpassed Kelesk. I found your post easier to read, and it made your overall writing feel much better in comparison. There were a few mistakes, but nothing you would have trouble identifying with a quick read-through or three after you're done writing.

In terms of detail and immersion, you were a (3.75). I very much liked what you wrote, but I felt like it was a bit lacking in terms of getting the feeling that you're there. More detail would serve you well in the next post. I'd also like more and fiercer combat.

In terms of grasping your opponent's character, you got a (4). Kelesk's character is very hard to grasp, and that's one of the cons of writing about it - then again, it offers the opportunity for some wildly imaginative posts, and so you land at a 4, as you interpreted it fairly well, but still had more to go on.

Overall this lands you at an average of (3.9375), which is also a good post, especially for your first try. I see a lot of potential in your writing, and there is nothing that indicates you can't win the next round with a bit of effort.

- - -

This round goes to Kelesk, but I sense that you will have a much harder time pulling off a victory in the next round, Kel. You will both continue writing your next round as if Kelesk's round happened.

Round 2. Fight!

Yeah sorry, I'll swap my MS Word spell check back to US. ~Kel

Doku awoke in a cold sweat, lunging forward into a seated position, beads of sweat tracing down his features and dripping from his chin to his bed sheets. The words the deity had uttered before he shook himself awake echoed into the back of his mind until they no longer rang in his head like white noise. Clutching his hand he sighed with relief seeing his two fingers still attached to his hand, Doku clenched his fist a couple of times to make sure everything felt normal letting out a second sigh once it was concrete in his head.

The sun shone lightly through his bedroom window as the sound of birds chirping outside helped him shake off the nightmare, cars and the drone of everyday life reiterated the fact and pulling himself from his bed he walked over to the window, the street was alive, no damage done to it aside the occasional pothole.

It was morning and the hustle and bustle was in full force outside his window. People sitting at traffic lights fidgeting and peering at watches or dashboard clocks stuck in the middle of the morning commute. Cars lined both sides of the street and even the office building which was next door, despite the disruption it constantly caused him, was still in one piece. Across the road from his apartment the schoolyard was alive with children playing tag and hide-and-seek and parents and teaches paid careful attention to them.

Doku sighed once more, hell of a dream, he thought to himself only thing now was how much of it really was a dream, the sky was its usual pale blue without even the slighted tinge of abnormal color and nothing seemed oddly out of place from what he could see. Clicking on his television and plopping himself down on the foot of his bed the morning news went over the usual list of trivial global events and then came to local. The first of the displayed local events was what had drawn in every bit of Doku’s attention. A report and update of the growing rift which had been detected in one of the cities various subway tunnels, a team had finally arrived to run tests. Staring closely at the team behind the reporter he noticed that within the white biohazard suits were men whose skin appeared green. Doku chalked it up to having just woken up.

Glancing down at the news feed trailing across the bottom of his screen he noticed a report of one of the neighboring cities having gone missing without a trace. Immediately his world ground to a halt, tracing over his nightmare and the events which he could remember leading up to it; the crimson glow looming over the city, the wanderer in the tattered cloak, Kelesk.

Doku muttered an obscenity under his breath and grabbed his weapons from the coffee table where he’d left them in what he’d hoped was a dream. The scenario was becoming disturbingly familiar. Running down the stairs of his apartment complex taking several at a time he rushed out the front door almost barging into several businessmen in overpriced suits who looked at the scruffy swordsman disapprovingly. Looking around carefully for what he assumed would be a hooded figure Doku could find no such sign of anyone who looked even remotely out of place. To him it was strange, to have had such a realistic dream and then for coincidence to lead him on a wild goose chase seemed a little too farfetched for him to accept.

Then he saw it, the tatter robes accompanying the torn hood, waking into view from behind a pulled over school bus. The figure walked slower than the rest of the crowd around him but he was nowhere near as unstable as Doku had seen in his dream. This one was healthy. The build of the wanderer before him was larger than he remembered; he could see the bulk of his arms through the rips in the robe sleeves yet the flesh was still blood stained. Too much was different, Doku didn’t like it.

Before Doku could get a chance to move across the road to intercept the wandered he saw him bump into one of the men he’d fought with in his arena battles who was with a group of friends. The man had been no push over and had sworn to exact revenge when he got a rematch. The fighter was rather large, quite possibly the equivalent of the hooded figure who continued to wander onward despite the fighter turning around.

God, not in the middle of the street. . .

Doku dashed into the street pulling himself up as he narrowly avoided getting hit by a bus. He could hear the fighter yelling into the crowd at the wanderer, ordering an apology from him and receiving nothing in return. As Doku glanced into the direction of traffic he looked back for only a second to where his fellow arena fighter was standing, a crowd circling around him and gradually breaking open like water hitting a wall as the wanderer walked away from him, parents and teachers covered children’s ears as the fighter started screaming profanities.

Looking back into the traffic as he dodged and weaved his way through passing vehicles Doku managed another glance upward and his breath caught in his throat. The arena fighter approached the wanderer from behind, grabbing the hood of his cloak and pulling it back until it ripped slightly. The wanderer halted his stride.

Doku couldn’t see the face of the hooded figure from where he was but the red hair still gave it away despite it being longer than he’d remembered it in his dream. The wanderer’s hair was probably three times the length he’d seen in his dream but just as bright in the morning sunlight. His crimson hair stood upright as if suspended in clumps by the ends however Doku knew it was merely his energy that held it on end like it was.

Dodging another car the sped past him he weaved into a position where he could just see the side of the wanderer’s face; Kelesk, he was snarling, his eyes narrowed and pulled into the corner of their sockets as if looking over his shoulder. The scar which he’d hoped to never see again, clear as day in the morning sun especially since his canine was clearly visible through it. People’s faces twisted in grotesque glances as they looked upon the once-hooded figure and Doku couldn’t blame them for it, Kelesk’s face was scarred beyond repair by the scar over his mouth and another large one which looked as if it should have taken out his left eye which joined another large horizontal scar on his cheek. Over the gasps and gagging Doku could hear the fighter’s voice.

“What the **** is wrong with your head dude. It looks like you head butted a freight train.”

His group of friends laughed wryly, no matter how much they tried to hide the discomfort of what they were looking at as they circled the wanderer they couldn’t.

“Well dude, you gunna’ answer me or what?”

Doku had reached the edge of the surrounding crowd of citizens and was trying to push his way through them, when last he’d looked at Kelesk’s face he’d noticed his eyes following the one who’d pulled his hood down like a hawk. He would be the firs to get hit if anything happened.

Pushing his way through the last of the crowd he saw what he’d hoped to avoid, the fighter pulled his arm back and threw it forward slamming his fist into Kelesk’s face. The crowd of onlookers gasped in unison some covering their eyes instinctively. Doku could only watch in awe as Kelesk stood motionless, he hadn’t fallen over with ease as he had in his dream, yet another factor that was false. As the fighter pulled his fist back he stood stunned, he’d landed a direct blow to his opponents face without any kind of reaction, Doku knew that he’d be confused, it wasn’t meant to happen like this in real life - Only in stories.

The fighter stumbled back, fighting with the shocked look on his face.

“Wha. . What in the world are you, you freak!”

Kelesk didn’t answer, the snarl turned to a devilish smile and he started to chuckle.

“Kelesk,” Doku ordered from just within the sea of onlookers, “He’s not involved with any of this, let him go and fight me instead, I’m the one you’re really after right?”

Kelesk’s chuckle immediately turned to manic laughter. The laugh, unfortunately, was the same. It had the same air of overconfidence about it, yet it was raspy and maniacal enough to send chills down his spine. It was still just as infuriating.

“Kelesk. . .” Doku managed to keep his cool but couldn’t manage anymore as their air around the deity rippled and his laughter ceased.

“No!” Doku lunged to where Kelesk had been, stumbling into the crowd on the other side of the circle. He’d seen the burst of energy what had seemed like minutes before he’d moved to try and stop him but it hadn’t been that long.

Energy erupted from around the fighter and his friends, brilliant flashes of amber which left sparks crackling in the air for seconds afterwards like tiny fireworks. Then Kelesk reappeared in one last burst from the middle of the group standing where he had been standing initially.

Doku watched, he knew what came next, he wanted to warn the people around to run but he couldn’t, as if he was watching a train wreck he saw the faces of the fighter and his friends twist in pain seconds before their bodies began spurting blood in every direction. Like hoses, blood sprayed into the astonished crowd and over Kelesk who stood motionless once more. As the pieces of bodies fell in bloodied piles on the sidewalk Kelesk began laughing again, ignoring the fleeing crowd around him some of whom were left kneeling in bloody pools vomiting with tears in their eyes.

Doku held his focus, looking at Kelesk who was covered in the blood of innocents - His face spattered with the crimson substance.

“Be gone from my sight, worm.” Kelesk muttered in the same low, raspy voice once he’d stopped laughing, looking from the corner of his eyes at Doku who could barely see the deity’s eyes from where he was standing. “Run away and never look back.”

Turning slightly to his left Kelesk began wandering in the direction of the center of the city again leaving Doku to surmise his options; take the warning seriously, or, let it go and try to stop this monster. Grabbing for his longsword he unsheathed the large weapon and brought it to bear, he knew what needed to be done, regardless of the risk.

“Kelesk.” He commanded in his usual tone, holding the weapon right-handed as he lowered into a stance ready for the barrage of attacks. “You won’t go any further. Your reign of fear ends here.”

Kelesk halted his progress, ****ing his head slightly to the side and twisting it around as if to look back over his shoulder in bewildered amusement. His visible eye locked in the corner of its socket as it looked back at him.

Seconds passed, Kelesk hadn’t said or done anything, he only stood there staring over his shoulder. The swordsman shuffled his feet uneasily, the gaze of the deity locked onto him almost as if he were looking right through him. The feeling of unpleasantness was beginning to bother him.

Beside him was a row of parked cars with a large gap set aside for the school busses to pull up in the morning. One of the cars had been close to Kelesk when he’d attacked the fighters; most of its curb side had been covered in blood which dripped down into the gutter. The white fence which ran around the outside of the school had also been stained by blood along with the hedge that grew behind it. Doku could see the children inside, peering through windows cautiously as teachers and parents tried to pull them away. It wasn’t an unusual sight in this city to see scuffles between the myriad of arena brutes, however, seeing something of this degree had everyone who’d witnessed it on edge and fearing for their lives.

Kelesk huffed and turned away from the swordsman, continuing his deliberate stride towards the center of the city, and, if Doku was right, the rift.

Looking up at the strange noise coming from overhead a news helicopter flew over the two, camera trained out the side, pointed directly at Kelesk who glanced up only for a moment.

Doku stood, his longsword clutched in his hands for seconds before his mind was set. Kelesk hadn’t even reached the end of the block before he stopped dead hearing the scuff of Doku’s boots on the sidewalk. Kelesk swung around, the breeze catching his hood and pulling it from his head. Reaching under his robes he pulled removed a small rod from its holster and swung it around in front of him.

Doku lunged forward bringing his weapon around in a horizontal slash as the rod extended into the staff he had seen in his dream. Kelesk had precious little time to react before the swordsman’s weapon slammed into his. Sparks flew from the area of impact and as Doku squinted to avoid them getting in his eyes he could see the deity looking down at him without emotion. Doku pulled his weapon from Kelesk’s and swung around backwards dropping to the ground and swinging his weapon at Kelesk’s legs. Not surprisingly as his weapon inched closer to its target a vibrant burst of energy erupted and his target vanished; sparks of energy leaving the only trace of anything having been there. Spinning himself onto his feet Doku kept the weapon held outright and felt it come in contact with something soft. Spinning once more he swung his weapon upward mid spin at the location of the object he hit with his last spiral, hitting nothing but air as he halted his spin.

Looking around calmly he could see no evidence that he’d hit anything aside the small trail of blood along the edge of his blade. There was too much collateral damage to tell if he’d hit anything other than Kelesk and far too much blood on the ground to tell if what he’d hit had been critical.

The next thing Doku knew he was off the ground, a burst of energy nanoseconds before he’d felt a tremendous force latch onto his face being the only clue as to what had hit him. From between the gaps in his assailant’s fingers he could see Kelesk’s face, another large cut adorning a face of scars where the longsword must have hit him. The deity’s face marred with rage.

Doku could only feel the grip on his face tightening with every second that passed. Ignoring his own weapon in his hand he clutched at the deities wrist fruitlessly. The next thing he knew he was flung around like am doll, first around and then violently downward. Without being able to give it a seconds thought of what was happening he felt the solid surface of the sidewalk driven against the back of his skull. At first he thought his head was going to be split in two but the concrete cracked beneath him and parted as he was forced into it.

Kelesk’s grip on his face disappeared shortly after that, opening his eyes he saw the monster standing before him, looking down as if in pity. Doku slowly moved his left hand behind his head and ran his fingers along it before bringing them into his field of vision. There was only a tiny smear of blood on his fingers and he sighed in relief. Cluthing his weapon with his right hand he pulled himself to his feet, the sword’s blade scraping against the footpath as he did.

Shaking off the slight head spin he’d received from the sidewalk Doku centered his sights back on Kelesk who was still staring back at him.

Lashing out once more, hoping to catch Kelesk off guard, Doku swung his sword around in a series of violent horizontal and diagonal slashes which all battered against an aegis which was the staff he wielded. Once more Doku flailed wilding, being caught up in his flurry of attack and glanced the edge of the staff, the blade of his weapon inching closer to Kelesk’s arm before a burst of energy left him stumbling forward with the thrust of his blade.

One step, a second, Doku stumbled forward and them felt his throat hit something solid, stopping his forward momentum. His body jerked backward and he almost fell over if not for him being pulled back against something.

His arms flailed around and his sword dropped to the ground as the object which had clothes-lined him pushed hard against his neck. His eyes widened and his elbows and forearms battered against an unseen force behind him.

His throat produced unnatural sounds as his vision blurred in and out and his struggling became weaker. Yet his assailant said nothing and remained motionless. As his vision began to fade he felt the object against his neck give way and saw it swing across what little remained of his fading vision He fell inertly but was stopped before his head hit the hard concrete. The last thing he knew was that he was moving.

Sorry for the delay, exams and what not. Death to Doku!

Doku's vision blurred slightly, surely a relatively minor injury couldn't result in that much blood loss? Of course he had dealt with it quickly but even so, the results were still present. The opponent was certainly in a league of his own, sporting unbelievable strength and agility along with his seemingly god-like powers. Life or death situations were not unfamiliar but this was one situation where the risk was almost a certainty.

“You've had plenty of chances, boy.” KelesK growled. He had spent more time than he had planned, despite the upper-hand he had gained. The vast majority of the humans present had either been a pitiful challenge or hadn't even confronted him. However, they were not important in the grand scheme of things and deserved no further attention.

The commotion had gathered quite a crowd. Almost entirely working class, they were not used to such a spectacle. KelesK smirked. His opponent seemed to have the idea that he was their protector, a hero of such. This would be a useful tool against him.

Unexpectedly, KelesK dashed forwards, the recently equipped Chaos scythe staining his trail orange. Doku leapt over the giant, his opponent moving too quickly for a sensible counter-attack. However, KelesK kept going. He was truly a monster, the screams of the public as he mercilessly carved through them seemed to provide pleasure, bordering euphoria, to the beast.

Seconds later, the screaming stopped. The crowd had been decimated, their bodies were torn open and drenched in blood. KelesK had not been precise in his slaughter, either as a result of temporary insanity or intense sadism. Either way, he knew that it would invoke an interesting response. This mighty protector was only a boy, one who couldn't protect himself let alone a city.

“KelesK! Your fight was with me, not them!” Doku exclaimed, his courage a result of the initial shock.

“Why did you attack them?”

KelesK chuckled dryly, his opponents sense of justice truly had blinded him from his upcoming demise. This toy hadn't reacted the way he wanted but it did not matter. He catapulted forwards, in the exact same manner he had previously. Out of the corner of his eye, Doku spotted an elderly gentleman cowering from behind a window. Doku lunged forwards with his sword, hopefully catching the behemoth off-guard.

The last thing Doku recalled was a flash of orange. His opponent had baited him, the target never was the old man. His vision slowly began to focus, he could feel a harsh wind. Where had he been taken? He sat up and looked around. He could see the metropolis below, he must have been taken to the central tower. KelesK was towering over him.

“What games are you playing, KelesK?” Doku asked weakly. He could tell that some of his ribs had been broken by the devious attack.

“None, I just wish for you to suffer.” KelesK responded coldly, as to be expected. “When you fail in your efforts, this entire settlement will fall to me, along with everyone in it.”

Doku had only his revolver on his person. However, with his marksmanship, it wasn't likely to aid him very much. He didn't have high hopes of defeating this opponent. It was still disheartening to know that he had been reduced to a mere spectator though. KelesK's focus was too strong, he had planned out every outcome and knew exactly how to manipulate him.

Doku leant back against the electronic billboard, adverts rotating every few minutes, there wasn't much else he could do. KelesK stared at the board, his face contorting with rage, was he annoyed with his opponent's lack of enthusiasm?

He swept Doku away from the board, his breathing becoming erratic and his arms shaking.

“Cucumba!!!” He roared. On the board, a green skinned face with piercing black and gold eyes was staring back at KelesK. Doku didn't recognise this advert and what did it have to do with cucumbers?

“Why do you mock me!?! Was my death not enough to satisfy you!!!” KelesK raged, slashing at the sign with his Chaos scythe but to no avail.

Doku, still puzzled, saw an opening. He pulled out his revolver and took aim at the back of KelesK's head. With no hesitation, he fired. KelesK, completely isolated from the world, was not prepared for any sort of retaliation. The madman clutched the back of his head and stumbled into the sign, causing it to collapse. He began grabbing at the shards shouting curses towards his tormentor. The Chaos scythe was abandoned. Doku quickly swept it off of the building, the very presence of the weapon made him feel uneasy.

KelesK growled, furious that his weapon had been separated from him. A murderous rage enveloped his up-until-now gruff yet controlled expression. He knew that he was being watched by him. It was impossible to escape from it but finding him was equally likely. Why had he been discarded in favour of the the fate of a mere boy?

His rage grew, red flames began to engulf his figure. He passionately disliked resorting to its use, but there was no way that he would let this opponent escape. Especially after such intervention. The flames expanded, engulfing everything in immediate proximity to him, Doku quickly shuffled away, even on the other side of the roof he could feel the intense heat. The ground beneath him was rapidly decaying, the heat was simply too much for any structure to tolerate.

A trickle of blood appeared at the corner of KelesK's mouth, still contort in rage, was he putting strain on himself even maintaining such power? Doku threw himself from the building, almost blindly. KelesK howled as the ground beneath him collapsed, causing him to tumble through each and every floor of the building.

Doku grabbed the familiar rail throwing himself on a nearby roof top. He could see the building cascading down to rubble. The devil may have been powerful but Doku's knowledge of the area had proved essential in his survival.

He could see the heat in the middle subside. The rocks moved slightly. A severely burned yet remarkably living hand thrust itself upwards. A small explosion sent the debris flying in all directions. KelesK, despite basically melting a 40-storey building and plummeting the same height, had survived with burns.

He was breathing heavily, completely defenceless and seemingly exhausted. Had he come to the city already exhausted? Surely he could maintain such power for longer? Doku saw his discarded Claymore near the monster. He wasn't a believer of luck, but convenience was welcome. Using what little stamina he had left, he leapt for his weapon and delivered his blow.

KelesK did not respond to the assault, despite the torrent of blood which followed after it. He remained standing. Who was this Cucumba and how did such little intervention turn the fight around like this?

Kelesk:

You greatly improved your flow from the last round, and I felt it was easier to read and follow than the previous one. I found the twist of the dream interesting, but it also felt kind of cheap, which subtracts from the experience. I personally would have liked to understand more of Kelesk's inner workings, but I won't judge you by that.

Dokutayuu:

Though your post was good in terms of flow, Kelesk caught up to you, and levelled the playing field. You lack detail and immersion in your post, though this only means you have a lot of potential to tap into. I also felt that your post was a bit short, though I really liked that you managed to pull Kelesk's background into your round, and I think you had a much better understanding of Kelesk's character this time around.

Overall, I find that Kelesk wrote the better round here, because his post clearly showed the most improvement, as well as the most solid, immersive writing.

Kelesk wins the round, and thusly the match. This means that Kelesk, with his 6500 experience points now gains Doku's 1000 experience points, and has 7500. As Kelesk has more experience points than Dokutayuu, he is entitled to perform a fatality on Doku's character if he so wishes. Dokutayuu gets 10% of Kelesk's 6500 points, landing him at 1650 points.

Scores:

Kelesk:

Wins - 6
Losses - 3
Streak - 3 wins

Dokutayuu:

Wins - 0
Losses - 1
Streak - 1 loss

Hopefully someone will manage to edit this into the official rankings (and obviously the fatality of Kelesk chooses to perform one).

Grega's Return.

When Doku awoke he found himself next to the rift which had slowly been gathering strength over the past few days since it had suddenly appeared. It was a sight beyond words, and in his groggy state it emphasised the point further.

Lifting himself to his hands and knees he slowly raised his head to meet the back of Kelesk’s modiwan robes. Kelesk was standing before the portal, motionless, staring into it as if searching for something.

It wasn’t until Doku attempted to get to his feet that Kelesk pulled his attention from the rift and at his defeated opponent.

“Why. . Why did you bring me here?” Doku softly spoke between pain-filled breaths.

Kelesk stared down at Doku with the same emotionless stare he had worn before, the hood of his cloak pulled back and his vibrant crimson hair glowing dully from the light of the rift.

Doku slowly pulled himself to his feet and stumbled slightly, stumbling into the wall of the subway tunnel.

“You could have easily killed me by now.” Doku continued, hunching over against the wall, sucking in deep breaths of the cool subway air.

Kelesk turned back to the rift, watching it as intently as before.

Doku, not knowing what else to query looked toward the rift and saw something blurry moving about within. Images of what appeared to be fighters engaged in a close battle.

It was difficult to follow what was happening but several times one of the two appeared to die, each time Kelesk growled and muttered incomprehensible words. Each time he did this he felt his body getting weaker, as if his life was being sucked from him.

Finally Kelesk began to chuckle quietly. Doku had collapsed to his knees, slumped against the wall. He raised his head to look into the portal where two figures were locked in place. One held his arm towards the other, a bright light emanating from beneath him, the other locked in place with fear painted on his face.

Kelesk’s chuckle turned to manic laughter and in a second he disappeared in a vibrant flash of energy. Doku sat where he was, unable to move due to exhaustion, watching the rift for lack of anything else to do and to his astonishment the fear stricken fighter faded.

The next he knew another burst of energy erupted and Kelesk returned, with someone next to him. At first the unknown person fell to the ground, fear and confusing running over his senses as he looked around frantically before his eyes locked onto Kelesk who stood facing the rift.

Doku sucked in another deep breath of air and watched, recognising the person as the fighter who had disappeared from the rift.

“You have served your purpose well, Doku.” Kelesk’s raspy voice muttered softly as the rift dissipated.

Doku watched as the fighter kneeled before Kelesk and lowered his head; muttering the words Kelesk wouldn’t say. . .

“You are free to go.”
